Daddy can you buy me a little sister ?

I have two boys and a girl who is our last child. Once she asked me this question ,"Daddy can you buy me a little sister ? " I burst out laughing and told her I will think about it. It is my way of getting out of making any promises with kids. Because if you say yes then you cannot break the promise.
So the real question here is how to deal with the demand of only boy or girl child to provide them a sibling ? How do you get out of that ?

Re: Daddy can you buy me a little sister ?

Speaking of my childhood experience, you (as a kid) eventually get out of it on your own, then comes the phase where you so wish that you were the only child. lol

Re: Daddy can you buy me a little sister ?

Being 8 years younger than my sister, I always asked for a lil sister/brother.. my mom told me to pray to Allah so usuallya roudn maghrib I will stand out in the balcony, praying for a baby and then asking mom if a baby was dropped off by the angels.. I dunno if anyone remembers this or not but back in the late 80s n early 90s in Pakistan there used to be a formula milk carton with the baby in a swing on it with clouds around it.. I thought thats how babies were delivered by angels!

but then I had soooo many lil cousins and nephews and nieces (babies of my cousins) that I just got over the desire of having a sibling.. I like part time babies! :-D

Re: Daddy can you buy me a little sister ?

Hehe, when I was younger, being a middle girl with two boys, I really wanted a sister. My friends had sisters and they use to play together, while I had no one to play with. I use to pray for a younger sister as well and I actually ended up having one though 7 years younger than me. Now when I scold or argue with her, or complaim to my mum about her behavior, my mum is like "tumne hi to duain karke ise bulaya hai, maine toh nahin kaha tha ke karo" :p

When we were expecting our third, my daughter hoped for a sister. I told her if it turns out to be a boy you don't have to share your room with anyone and you'll be our only princess. That made her happy and she seemed fine with the thought of having another brother, but then at times she still wished it would turn out to be a girl specially when she had a fight with her brother.

One day after a fight she goes.... "please let it be a girl.... it's not that I don't like boys but I've already dealt with one".

I really wanted a sister and would ask for one all the time.

My mother even now says she wishes I had one.

But I love my brothers! :hugz:
