Re: daal
Mix all of the above ingredients with 2 cups of water and cook on slow heat I cant emphasis enough on slow heat coz daal is really tasty when cooked on slow heat. Cook for almost 30-40 min stirring occasionally. After daal is tender, turn the heat to high and keep stirring to mesh the daal. Add or evaporate water to bring it to your desired consistency. At this point you can actually take out the whole onion piece if you want. Turn off the heat and cover.
Now the tarka
heat around 2-3 table spoon oil in small pan. Put cube, garlic and cumin and gry for sometime till cube is all melted. Add chills and curry leave. fry for 15-20 seconds and pour the tarka on daal and cover. Serve it with roti or white rice (potato bites is a good combination with this). Or just have it as soup
This is easy and yummy daal that even i can make.
PS: you cant make “entertaining” daal and its always be boring but you can watch some item number while making it. At least the process wont be boring ![]()
daal
Love the recipe above. I make it very very similarly.
Re: daal
Make achari daal, qorma daal, karhi masala daal, makhni daal, mix all daals, mix some subzian etc, give tarka with butter to old boring daal , make various kinds of chutnies , raetas and salads with this daal.
Imagination should be the only limit when it comes to making daal. Nobody is stopping to make daal using all kind of meat dishes masalas.
Then you can make daal bhara paratha for that make sure that daal is not runny.
Agar maza na aye to paisay wapis.
Re: daal
Oooo thanks will try the above method.
How to make achari daal?
Re: daal
Cook some daal to perfection , Then add your favorite achar as much as you like. Cook some more and give this daal tartka the way you always do. I guarantee it would be a hit.
The other way is to cook you favorite daal , prepare some piaz tarka , mix some achar gosht masala in this tarka and fry a little then tarkafy your daal with it.
Report back with the results.
Re: daal
I agree most of the people like that’s cooked like the way you tell! Hardly few likes the simple daals!
Re: daal

Re: daal
I add some mango achaar and chopped potato to the daal when it is cooking and a teaspoon of kalonji seeds. Make the tarka intersting, add the onions, ginger, curry pata, whole red dried chillies, zeera and prepare the tarka in ghee. Soooo yummy.
Re: daal
Why don’t you go on hunger strike, or make something you like for the whole family.
Re: daal
Add chicken cube to daal. Make daal with chopped hari mirch and Hara dhanya cooked in masoor. Mash daal with meat is super yummy. Or Chana daal with kaddu and meat to make dalcha, add imli for khatai. Then make mixed daal with cream for makhni daal.
Re: daal
Mmmmmm
Sounds.yummy will.def try
Re: daal
Do various kind of tarka’s , they make a huge difference to the taste and specially if you are after varying tastes ..
Achari daal is a brilliant option ..
do a tarka with bay leaf and curry pata and that tastes awesome too
Just garlic tarka in loads of pure ghee is super awesome
Re: daal
My favorite one is chanay ki daal. One day I mixed a bit of Shan’s Achar Gosht masala into the chanay ki daal and I guess by doing so ..I had accidentally stumbled on Achaari daal, but holy wow it made a very pleasant and delicious difference. Try doing that OP.
You can also vary daal by combining it with gosht. Or various vegetables to make…kaddu-daal, paalak-daal and I think karelay daal as well. Daal pairs beautifully with shami kababs especially the ones made of potatoes (aalu cutlets). I also enjoy daal with the more sweeter/tangier chutneys like imli ki chutney or the aloo bukhara one. And you can even make things ineteresting by varying the roti…kulcha, naan, paratha, etc etc.
