I heard any read many celebrities (Desi one) claiming that their favorite dish is daal chawal.

Whats with that hypocrisy, when these celebrities are ready to jump in a five star’s buffet any time.

To be honest, its a bad day when I’m presented with daal chawal.

daal chaawal represents simplicity N down-to-earth life style...they, oviously, wanna relate to the masses...

...btw, i LOVE daal chaawal...but made like it is made in a 5-star restaurant...chaawal jo bhaat ke bajaaye Khushkaa lage aur safed dhulii huii mo'aash kii sookhii daal jis par asli ghee men bhunii hii surKh crispy/crunchy pyaar kaa taRkaa lagaa huaa ho aur jo daal kam aur dessert ziyaada lage!

You said its a way to connect with masses, but daals are also behind the reach of common man nowadays :(

Pakistan meN hogii…India meN to abhii bhii daal bhaat hii cheaspest food hai! :slight_smile: here, i am talking about the cheapest daal [masoor kii daal] and NOT the maash kii daal which is like the Mercedes of daals lol :cb:

Your daal chaal remind of a question i always think, why some people think daal chawal or veggies are only for poor/middle class?and meat/chicken/fish is for higher class people? I have heard this so many times when people go to any dawat they say .

Oh meat Mai sirf aik item tha baaki Sab sabziyan aur dalen thee..

My point is what’s wrong with veggies? Even they are more expensive and healthy.

I remember in desi weddings aunties always complain,boutiyan tou nazar hi nahi aa rahi hain :smack:

hamare ilake me arhar/tuvar ki daal hi sabse zyad khayi jaati hai....

maash aur masoor ki daal for a change banti hai..........:)

daal ke bagair to hamare haan khana mukammil nahi hota....

aur hum log pake huye chwal ko chawal na keh ke khana kehte hain.........:D

That is why Babar wrote in his book that people in India are strange as they eat "anaj kay saath anaj" (daal with wheat roti)!

Perhaps its in human nature, I have seen only approx 30% kids like to eat daal/veg.

But I love daals and prefer them over meat.

All you daal lover if u were giving daal everyday,like kabbi masoor kabhi mash,then would u eat it everyday?

I like to eat daal but once a week only,

Chicken is must once a day for me.
