Re: Cyberbullying
I think there should be more control on cyber-bullying since children as young as 5-10 are introduced to the internet, through playing games which can very easily lead to chat rooms and forums. And the control does not only apply to the internet policies for minors but also the control parents can have through keeping a tab on the amount of internet time, certain websites, and so on.
But I think early teens are most at risk of being bullied. I mean if you think about it before the internet you played with your friends ( who were your age group), at their home, playground. Parents knew for the most part who you hang out with and who their parents are. There is NO way of parents knowing all this if you are making friends on the internet. Not only that but you are introduced to all age groups online, which is where bulling can start.
Lets not forget how many cases we're getting on T.V of kids committing suicide because they were bullied online.
And we are way past the "I'm not going to let my child have an e-mail, facebook, etc until their mid teens."It is inevitable that they are going to open an account for themselves, if it maybe when parents are not home or during school time. SO you might as well teach them the precautions and keep parent controls on, on the computer.
So I guess a hotline is a good start.
