thanks so much Chipsie , dont think we get this in the UK :(

Re: Cutting toughened Greese

Can you find anything similar? It really works great on the toughest greases..!

Re: Cutting toughened Greese

Regular dishwashing soap doesn't cut it when you need to clean the bottom of pots. I'll use Vim/Comet along with a rough type of 'kuchi'...err, like a tough sponge that will wipe off the grease. CB, I don't know if you have Vim/Comet on your side of the pond, but it's the stuff we use here to clean our bathroom sinks and bath tubs. The soap cuts a little harder through grease and dirt.

You could give that a shot, see if it works for ya. Just make sure to clean pots and pans right after you've used them, otherwise it's a pain to clean them afterwards :p

Re: Cutting toughened Greese

If its not non-stick pots we are talking about.. i'd use S.O.S cleaning pads. These really work for anything we aren't protecting the polish of. I wouldn't use this on non-stick/stainless steel but desi pots.. this definitely works.

I have tried oven cleaner and works but the fumes are not good for you. If you live in house try to do this outside so you have fresh air or cover your mouth with a dupatta.
Grease will melt off with oven cleaner.

Re: Cutting toughened Greese

I was going to suggest oven cleaner as TS above , there are some oven cleaners now which are fumes free. Try those they are always my last resort for tough jobs.

Re: Cutting toughened Greese

SOS/Brillo pads work brilliantly with a brand new sponge (new sponges have that rough edge that old one's don't cos of use over time). Add a little bit of Comet/Ajax and scrub away! When I'm feeling lazy, I spray it with oven cleaner and let it sit for a while before scrubbing.

That's right there is a fume free oven cleaner. However heavy duty works best. Our greasy cooking begs for oven cleaner...but again want stress that it just be done in a well ventilated place. If you scrub the outside of your pots day with scouring pads and Ajax/comet/Brillo pads they probably won't require oven cleaner. Remember to use oven cleaner on te outside surfaces of pots/pans only. Don't not use it on the cooking surface which comes in contact with food.

Another suggestion is to try baking soda and vinegar or table salt. I know the salt is good for baked on food.

Desi totka - Put some water in that greased pot & heat that up for a while OR put hot water in that pot & leave it for sometime.

I usually boil water in pots I have cooked food to loosen food particles.
