Assalaam Alikum!
Thank you for correcting me brother jallal-uddin! P.S., don’t take it in the wrong sense, but I was commiting from memory (a bad thing). Probably by now, you would have seen that my memory is not very reliable, is it?
Anyway, it is an interesting topic, and I wanted to discuss more about it! This time, no more memory work! Straight quotes I find!
And yeah, did not mean to offend anyone there! Just trying to explain to Rasputin what he was saying was wrong. Perhaps i got off on the wrong foot. It’s never too late to retrace your footsteps, is it?
Anyhow, here are some sunnah of the Holy Prophet I found reported in Sahih Al-Bukhari relating to the cutting of the hand for theft:
The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) said, “The hand should be cut off for stealing something that is worth a quater of a Dinar or more.”
Narrated Aisha: The hand of a theif was not cut off during the lifetime of the Prophet (P.B.U.H) except for stealing something equal to a shield in value.
Narrated Umar: Allah’s Messenger (p.B.U.H) cut off the hand of a theif for stealing a shield that was worth three dirhams.
Now, a quater dinar at that time must be worth something else in today’s times economically. Can anyone provide me with info as to how much is the minimum theft nowadays in relation to that hadith, i.e. the value of a quater dinar in the Prophet’s time equals what in todays time.
Rasputin, hopefully, the answers provided to my question will answer yours as well!
Once again, Jallal-uddin, did not mean any offence to Islam, or to Muslims, or to anyone on this forum, or to anyone on the face of this earth! And thank you for correcting me! I do believe I don’t know anything about Islam myself, but I’ll be glad to know at least someone else does in today’s time!
P.S. sorry, it took me time to reply. Been too busy lately. Better late than never, right?
Khuda Hafiz!
