Ok so I need some advice from you ladies. I need some type of cuticle therapy. My cuticles are presently in bad shape, a buddy of mine said that it’s because I don’t know how to cut my nails and should get a manicure. I’m open to his suggestion but there has to be a better reason for my cuticles to not have these hangnails?
pakone:k:…well done on being brave to post on a usually “female orientated” thread!!!..me suggests u soak your hands in warm water , add some cuticle conditioner which u can buy from any supermarket…then gently push back cuticles with an orange stick and trim ur cuticles with a nail clipper…file, shape and finally buff…and lastly massage in some cuticle oil and bravo :k:… manicured hands…other option is …go and get a manicure done professionally !!!
Very nice. Do you know if there are kits available for cuticle therapy? it sounds like I need to buy:
Cuticle conditioner
Nail clipper (separate one)
Cuticle oil
Am I missing anything else?
I wouldn’t mind getting a manicure except that I don’t usually have the time to get out to the barbershop. I get a monthly haircut and could get a manicure then, but that would still be monthly. I definitely need to take this in my own hands (no pun intended) and do it myself.

Thanks again for your help.
ur most welcome pakone.... if u live in the Uk any Tescos or Asdas or Superdrugs sell manicure sets.....u will need **
**a) an emery board ( nail file and a cardboard one) b) cuticle oil and conditioner c) good sharp nail clippers d) cuticle cutter **
**e) a buffer ( Boots do a good 4 - in 1 one)
If you get a manicure done once a month its suffice.....they do all of the above and with a hand massage thrown in for free :)..................good luck!!!! and keep those hands looking svelt!!!;)
I’m US based but do travel to the UK pretty frequently. I’ll check Tescos to see if they have what you mentioned. I should probably get in the habit of doing this on my own because I can’t always rely on a manicure.
As for he manicure itself, don’t our nails grow faster than hair? It takes me 30 days to get a haircut so I am wondering if I’ll be walking in with bear claws
Thanks again for your advice to me and the rest of humanity
pakone I wouldnt know what the growth rate is for mammals!!!;)....................I think Gina would have the fatcs and figures about that.... if you manicure ur hands, your nails should grow at a steady rate.. hair tends to grow fater during summer.....Im sure you can buy a manicure set quite easily in US...best of luck and no probs ;)
I wouldnt actually recommend trimming the cuticles urself, you should get this done professionally (manicure) to avoid further damage. But yeah as poppies suggested, soaking your hands in warm soapy water and pushing them back is fine. Instead of buying conditioning treatments etc. why not try olive oil which can be found in your kitchen as a much cheaper option?
Pak-one. soak u're fingers in a warm water to which a few drops of olive oil have been added. Getting manicures done is fine, just be sure to use u're own instruments! U really don't need manicures..just buy a cuticle cream and massage it onto u're cuticles.
Please don't attempt cutting u're cuticles urself.. u may cut them too deep and hurt u're cuticles.
Please don't trust the cuticle cutters at salons, take u're own if u really want.
Always moisturize u're hands after washing, this will prevent them from happening.
