who can decide who is a better parent? the families or the court…I think it makes sense if mother gets custody of the child most of the time.

I wholeheartedly disagree! Custody of a child can be shared. If both parents love and are capable of caring for the children, one should not be given preference for the sake of convenience or to conform with societal norms.
