Like practically…usually who gets the kids more than the other??
I thought mothers usually get the custody…

Oddly enough in this day and age of gender equality, stereotypical roles still exist. The mother gets the kids simply because she is the mother, not because of economic, financial or sociological reasons. Personally I believe whoever can be the better parent should keep the kid.

i dont know who gets it often but i think men must get the custody.they are strong and independent unlike women.

Women get it more often but I also believe it should be the better parent. In the legal system though for some reason, people think mothers are the better parent by default. And to a certain extent, this is understandable.
I do not like it though when women start to create issues and stop men from seeing their kids.

That. It doesn't matter who gets the kids as long as the one who doesn't get them isn't kept from seeing their kids.

Some courts are moving towards joint custody as the default option, unless one parent can prove that the other parent is unfit to parent. Divorce is tragic enough, to formalize parental alienation through an inequitable custodial relationship is just cruel.
People forget, it's the parents' relationship that is over, not the parent's and child's relationship. Both parents should have as far as practical, equal access and equal input (insofar as making choices) in how to raise the children.
Children should not be made a victim of divorce.

In most cases its the women who have default access and they keep their children away from their fathers. Its very sickening how women, hell mothers use their kids as leverage against the husband/father.

Like I said, times are changing and with it the court's approach on determining custodial arrangements. It's a slow change, but nevertheless a step in the right direction.
I know it speaks very poorly of women, but I've read about a few cases where the mom alleged physicial/sexual abuse against the father just to ensure that she would get custody of the kids and to punish the father for ending the marriage or just pure malice.
Unfortunately, until the allegations against the father are resolved (which is costly and time-consuming), the father is SOL in trying to maintain a relationship with the children. If a couple is going through an acrimonious split - the first priority should be to preserve parental rights - consult a lawyer ASAP!

who can decide who is a better parent? the families or the court...I think it makes sense if mother gets custody of the child most of the time.

I wholeheartedly disagree! Custody of a child can be shared. If both parents love and are capable of caring for the children, one should not be given preference for the sake of convenience or to conform with societal norms.

Fathers do it too!! So it happens both ways...sometimes ppl will do what ever it takes to hurt the other person.
In my case..my dad got custody of me...I think my mom gave up the battle coz she could see it was damaging to me....but am not sure about the details. Don't want to know the details too.

I wouldn’t touch family law with a ten-foot pole, not for all the money in the world, the emotional costs are not worth it.
Agreed - it could be the father as well who plays the mind games and tries to alienate a child from their other parent. Malice and the ability to hurt someone is not the exclusive domain of either gender.

I think he means whoever has more money gets the better lawyers and hence wins custody.

Woman should get the custody if the kids are 10 years and younger. She should raise and he should financially support.

I've heard htat Islamically, the mother gets to keep the child until age 7 and after that the father has to have custody? i'm not sure about this...
