[RSheikh, I have to agree, I’d like to stand out against the decor too, I’m going to ask the guests to wear any shade of green they like. I’ll be in a simple mustard yellow. In terms of the cushions I might just mix it up with the red, oranges and gold. I love your colours! What a good idea to mix it up and have the unusual pinks/blues.
Thanks esteemedone!! Mehndi is that one day where you can actually have fun with all the colors and i def. will take advantage of that the other two days are so formal and you have to kind of stick with its theme colors to make it look elegant so def. go color crazy on mehndi day!!
I’m having a mayoon too and thats probably goign to at home–not too sure about where it will take place as of yet but nutting too fancy trying to find a unique way to make that day have a different look than the mehndi day since the mayoon is going to be on a frday night and mehndi on sat. nite and following week the baarat and valima so i want to give the mayoon day a complelety dif. look than the mehndi havent come up with any unique idea but if anyone has any suggestions plz post!! oh and mayoon suit yellow and gold so dont want its decore yellow or gold!!
So on your Mehndi you have a green and yellow suit: decor is: "shades of pink, green, gold (instead of yellow) navy blu".
With your yellow mayoun suit you could have silver, orange and royal purple as a background design? i know its kind of out there but trust me if you can balance it, it's a good decor look. Plus you would stand out nicely. Someone else will probably have a better idea than me :)
lol...no they didnt return the cusion covers back to pakistan but inside cusion which is stuffed with foam tehy turned those back to the fabric store here in toronto where they bought them from....
^ hmm...i personally prefer a variety of colors not just green and yellow it sound and looks bland yet so typical but if you have shades of pink, green, gold (instead of yellow) navy blu i think it will look better thats wut im planning on doing since the color of my mehndi suit is green and yellow i want my suit to not blend in with its decor it seems so tacky i think a hint of green and yellow looks good but not everything i think the main focus should be yourself and ways of making urself stand out and not blend in with the decor. wut do u say?

don't forget shades of green would also work like chartreuse and emerald, and then there's turqoise, navy and plum too. its going to look great!
Mayoun/Uptan is like a pre mehndi function mostly involving ladies only. Same things take place like singing songs on dholak & dancing. Usually the bride wears yellow or mustard or turmeric color & the ladies apply uptan on her face & sometimes legs & arms.
In my family when a bride sits Mayoun usually anywhere between 3-7 days, she doesn't do any house chores till the wedding day, gets relaxing oil massages & is pampered a lot.
sometimes it's just cheaper to buy the fabric yourself and make the pillows...or rent them from a company that has thrown that style of parties before, even some wedding planners have their own decorations you can rent out cheaply. I know of a lady here in houston and wouldn't be surprised if nj and ny had more options given how much longer the desi presence has been established.
Also see if any aunties have old saris they don't mind you using for pillows. i know someone that did that and though all the colors weren't the same it didn't matter it all went with the desi theme you know?
I remember being in the canal st. area when i came upon a desi fabric store but a lot of white ppl were just buying high fashion fabrics, anyhow they had decent prices. can't recall the place off the top of my head though.
i recently went to a BEAUTIFUL mehendi. They have the pillows and the arabic theme. Im gonna try to look for pictures. It was extremely pretty! i would love to do that but my parents are more towards the religious side and wouldnt really be so happy with a grand mehendi. My cousins are going to throw my Mehendi. So i dont wanna demand too much. Ill find some pics and show u how her stuff was.

Why not ask every gril friend you have for floor cushions and regular ones. Have your aunts make big gau takia's too and stuff these. WAY easier than buying!! And colorfull too!!h
