I’m going to Pakistan in couple of weeks and am thinking about getting some custom made curtains from there for my windows/balcony door.
Has anyone ever got curtains from Pakistan? I’ve heard some mixed reviews so far. I’ve one big window in both of my rooms and door in the living room that opens to the balcony. I’ll see if I can post pics tomorrow. But I don’t want to carry all that stuff back from Pakistan and then find out I don’t like it or it doesn’t look good so any input from anyone who has experimented with this before woud be greatly appreciated. Also, please share any tips etc you might have.
Measure Measure Measure!! Make sure you take accurate measurements of your windows/doors. We got them made from Pak and they came out looking just fine. Some of our friends also got them made from Pak and they look absolutely beautiful in their new home :k: Make sure you have the design/colors in mind so you can tell the curtain guys exactly what you would like made…take pics if you have to of samples. One thing is more sure, Pak has great quality material for making curtains. We had tons of choices.
Just get the types that Rukhsar showed in her picture and buy your rods all at stores in North America.
The curtains made in pakistan are pretty decent for the most part. I had a friend who had them made for her entire house and I was pretty shocked at the result. They did a damn good job. Just remember to pick your own material and measurements need to be exact to your taste.
When I see better curtains made from Pakistan compared to the costly crap I see at places like Bed-Bath & Beyond or Linen & Things, it really pisses me off. The cost at some of these places is outrageous, mind you, the quality of the material is also not always worth the cost or to your liking !
So, yeah, go prepared and have them made in Pak. It will cost you much less and you should be pretty happy with the outcome.
yeahMon, ur trip is due again. Take the measurements. Length and Width. Write down on piece of papers, Bedroom window= 45'' X 60''
Scribble down the colour of the room as well. For eg, its good that the curtains match the colour of the bed spread and stuff. And yes, get the bedspread with all sorts of pillow covers etc made in Pak too. Ab mojhay zabani yad nahi, but kahiN Mini market mie jub wo Punjab house seekh/kabab tikay walo kay peechay side gali say niqlo, tuo there's some place in that area gulberg who makes stuff like this.
Getting curtains for the sitting room, make sure u get it in hues and tones that go with the carpet/sofas etc. So that the curtains are in harmanoy with the entire room. U can make some decor cushions of the similar material as the curtains to tie in with the room. Aur han, while getting the curtains, don't forget to get the sheer ones done as well serving as day blinds.
In Pakistan (LHR) they even do great Roman blinds these days ;-) They're actually quite neat!
aur kuch? Han aur agr paisay ziyada bachanay hain, always go to walmart to get the rods, incase u opt for the sample posted above. U're better off with taking a sample of precise curtains u want made. Just remember what colours u want them in, so that they are not off! But then like I said u can make the colour work (even if its wrong, but material and product beautiful) by adding up similar throws, cushions etc with it of the same curtain material.
Roman just get urself a wife this trip. She'll take care of ur pardah and lack of it too.
By the way other than measurements take a picture from some catalogue or somewhere of the exact stuff that u r looking for, that way u'll have a plan to follow. Im talking of the curtains this time.
I had all of my Window curtains done in Pakistan last summer. They have very big variety and all imported fabric and styling. You will find all the big brand names along with Sears, JC Penny and other stores's magazines and styles.
You can have decent and stylish bedroom curtain done in Rs 7K. for master bad with extra valens etc etc, make it 10K max.
For living rooms and famly rooms they have variety and amazing designs as well. Ranging from 7K to 15K depending on size, material and designs.
I would suggest you to measure your windows properly both in inches and cm, 5 inches above the trim on top to*"all the way to floor at the bottom".* Spare a good six hour shopping schedule just for curtains.
If you touch Karachi for a day or two its worth going to Nursery off Sharahe Faisal near Society/Nursery intersection. Its a mini-dubai for curtain shopping.
Which mechanism works best with curtains? The one with the rod or something else (e.g. handing cord to open curtains etc)? Would the curtains made in Pakistan will fit the cord/rod mechanism rods here in US?
if u r going to pindi there is one store there bombay clothing.some thing like that..i had my living and bed room curtains made there ,,and u know for how much,,,the cloth, lining and stiching,,alltogether(for 5 windows) rs.5000.00.. not even $100.00.they packed the curtains very nicely in plastic, cauz i told them that i am going to usa..
The cost factor aside.. it is a fact that you cna actually get veru nice curtains made in Pakistan... just choose ur own designs and the "KARIGARS" there would do a perfect job. You cna take Catalogues from here and get whatever you want. I don't know about America but I have to say that so far I haven't seen decent curtains even in a single British home (prolly I just know the wrong ppl).
