Cursing

How common is cursing at your work? Does it make you feel odd? Do people use it in meetings or just at chit-chat near the coffee machine?

Re: Cursing

What kind of cursing though?

Re: Cursing

Cursing of all kinds.

Re: Cursing

depends.....

Re: Cursing

Where I work people curse regularly. They use it in all types of conversation.

Usually they will apologize infront of me because I think my face gives this "shocked/surprised" look which I have no control over, when I hear such language. I dont particularly care for such language, but I have gotten used to hearing it around me.

I prefer nobody use curse words, but what is the likelihood of that happening.

Re: Cursing

People at work curse all the time; especially my clients. Some times I have to translate it into English, and thats the worst part of my job!!! I hate it, but I haven't got a choice. I have learnt a number of punjabi swearing words, and they are pathetic.

My colleagues hardly curse, well not at work place infront of me atleast...

Re: Cursing

Not very common at all. When i have heard some in the past, it made me feel uncomfortable. I think it’s not so bad when it’s just amongst close co-workers in private…but it’s not good out loud in front of everyone.

Re: Cursing

Are there any HR guidelines in your company on how to approach this issue?

Re: Cursing

Sophisticated cursing is not un-common. Usually prefixed or suffixed by "please excuse my french", with dropping of an f-bomb. Doesn't bother me or anyone. People have a right to take out their frustrations, as long as they are not insulting or demeaning anyone.
