Re: Cursed Tree?

Are you referring to 17:60? I don’t think the “tree” in this verse is a real tree. it denotes something else

Any further detail/info ?

Re: Cursed Tree?

“Tree of zaquum” as mentioned in 37:62 - 37:65, 44:43, 56:52. Now what exactly is that tree. it needs a bit of explaining. At this moment, I am not very clear on this

Re: Cursed Tree?

Re: Cursed Tree?

Peace queer,

I don’t know  if you know then feel free to share here.

Re: Cursed Tree?

LKK it does sound strange.
But quran is very aware of it and I think it does talk about it as anomaly (of expression).
Around it is "sight which was made " and the “mention of the cursed tree”.
It makes doubt full people more doubt full.

They over look all the logic and information quran has to offer.
southes fav quote (allah know the best)

Re: Cursed Tree?

It is an allegoric expression not a real tree/plant

^ Wa ‘Alaykum Salaam

I am sure Brother **Lethal Kamikazi **is referring to the Cursed tree in verse the 17:60

And when We said to you: Surely your Lord encompasses men; and We did not make the vision which We showed you but a trial for men and the cursed tree in the Quran as well; and We cause them to fear, but it only adds to their great inordinacy. The Blessed Quran [17:60]

Altafsir.com - The Tafsirs -

*And, remember, when We said to you, ‘Truly your Lord encompasses mankind’, in knowledge and power [over them], such that they are within His grasp: so deliver the Message to them and do not fear anyone, because God will protect you from them. And We did not appoint the vision that We showed you, before your very eyes, during the Night Journey, except as a test for people, [for] the people of Mecca — since they denied it and some of them [even] apostatised when he [the Prophet] informed them of it — and [likewise] the tree cursed in the Qur’ān, namely, the [tree called] Zaqqūm [Q.37:62ff] that issues from the very root of the Blazing Fire [of Hell]; We made it a test for them, because they said, ‘Fire consumes trees, so how can it cause it [the Zaqqūm tree] to issue forth?’. And We [seek to] deter them, with it, but it, Our deterrence, only increases them in gross insolence. *

As usual Shias have their own version/slant to this tafseer of this ayah

Aqa Mahdi Puya says:

*The purpose of the revelation of this verse is to give comfort and encouragement to the believers in order to neutralise the effects of the disheartening events which had already happened, or were expected to happen. Allah encompasses the people. Such insignificant events do not affect His all -embracing authority and omnipotence. The dream or vision does not refer to mi-raj (refer to the commentary of verse I of this surah) because it was neither a disheartening event nor a trial for his ummah. It was a highest honour and glory bestowed on His habib (most beloved friend). The cursed tree also does not refer to zaqqam (Saffat: 62 to 65; Dukhan: 43 to 46 and Waqi-ah: 52) because hell and its contents are not cursed but are means made by Allah to punish the wicked. There is no authentic tradition to support that either the vision refers to the conquest of Makka (Fat-h: 27) or the battle of Badr (Anfal: 43). According to the Ahl ul Bayt it refers to the dream (monkeys sitting on the Holy Prophet’s pulpit) which Allah showed to him about a tribe (Bani Umayyah) from among his followers who had destroyed the spirit of Islam after him; that was a time of trial for the true believers. The Holy Prophet saw in his dream that like those Jews who did not believe and were cursed by Dawud and Isa (Ma-idah: 78 and 79) his followers would also deviate from the right path. but would not be able to harm the true faith because his Ahl ul Bayt would he there to safeguard the religion of Allah from the mischief of the deviating monkeys.

The cursed tree may refer to the evil tree mentioned in Ibrahim: 26.

It is also a warning to the mischief-makers, but they pay no heed, and on the contrary they boldly transgress more and more.*

Re: Cursed Tree?

Peace brother Ibn Saddique :jazak: and thank you all for your efforts.

The tree Zaqqum, a bitter and pungent tree described as growing at the bottom of Hell, a type of all that is disagreeable. It is mentioned by name in the Holy Qur’an in the following Chapter/Verse:

Chapter 17 Verse 60: "Behold! We told thee that thy Lord doth encompass mankind round about: We granted the vision which We showed thee, but as a trial for men,- as also the Cursed Tree (mentioned) in the Qur’an: We put terror (and warning) into them, but it only increases their inordinate transgression!:.

Chapter 37 Verse 63-64: “Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith”.

Chapter 44:44- 46: “Verily the tree of Zaqqum. Will be the food of the Sinful,- Like molten brass; it will boil in their insides. Like the boiling of scalding water”.

Chapter 56 Verse 52-53: "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. “Then will ye fill your insides therewith”.
