Do you believe there is such a thing as families being ‘cursed’ like the Kennedys?
I’ve often thought it’s the money and lifestyle which caused the accidents + deaths in their case.. More money and fame just gives you more opportunity to do things which can put you in harm’s way imo

Personally, I don’t believe in curses or “cursed families.” I quite agree that it’s money and lifestyle that gives people more opportunity to do things that put them in harm’s way. Being a public figure and being in the public eye constantly, as many wealthy families are, also puts one in harm’s way to some degree.
In terms of ordinary people, I think that many of the “curses” that are said to run in families can be attributed to the environment around a family, their particular circumstances, and other organic factors.

i don’t believe in the concept of being ‘cursed’ individually or as a group. however, is Islam, a collective punishment [azaab] is often meted out to a nation or a group for their collective violations of Allah’s commandments and/or indifference to justice. i do believe in that.

I agree with KKF. Some examples could include the punishment given to the nations of any prior prophets, like Lut, Shuaib, Nooh (AS). Another possibility is that a nation can be involved in a punishment when sins become common among them. An example to this effect narrated in hadith is that they could be punished by having a tyrant ruling over them.
I’m not sure if this is still in the scope of your original question, but I do believe in effects of bad-dua and sihr (magic), both of which can have similar end results as the concept of a curse.

The lost city/tribe/people of Iram…In Chapter 89, verse 6-14 of the Quran, it is told about the lofty city of pillars that was wiped out due to their corruption

I don’t believe in curses but I do think nazar exists. I agree that with Kennedy, Bhutto or any other famous families, money and the doors of opportunities and experiences it opens certainly can be a factor in the cursedness to the family name.

the collective punishment was not just meted out on nations in the past but it is being sent down upon nations & countries even today. Allah clearly warned us that He will punish us in this world if we transgress. we have seen in the recent past and we are seeing today the examples of Allah’s 'azaab.
qayaamat isn’t too far away, may be even less than a day…in terms of Allah’s length of days.

i believe in what goes around comes around.
if you do something bad to someone intentionally, then you are bound to face the consequences.
i also believe in the concept of Bad dua. if you hurt someone and if he gives bad dua to you, it is going to take effect in your life but i believe that would be restricted to the individual only and not his/her family because ALLAH doesn’t punish all of the family if a member of the family has done something bad to someone.

We wouldn’t have Surah Nas and Falak if *some *of this stuff doesn’t exist.
I think it could also be bad karma. You kind of have trample the little people to become the big man so you kind of sow what you reap.
