Current Trend

for search/ibada on night of power (lailatul qadr) is that people seem to gather in the masjids in large numbers on the 27th night of ramadan and stay up all night. I mean its not certain that lailatul qadr is on the 27th. I see a lot of women young/old with children staying the whole night at the masjids. Furthermore, aunties were discussing how these women seem to think its an occasion to show off new clothing/jewelery, lol even household utensils like pots/pans are being dragged to the masjids for making tea/soups etc on the 27th night. Apparantely, they put up quiet (sp) a show!

Re: Current Trend

Your right. Laila-Tul-Qadar is to be 'searched' for on the odd nights of the last ashra (21|23|25|27|29), that was the hukam of Prophet (Sallalaho Alaehai Wasalam). It's a mistaken belief amongt some muslims that the 27th night is the night of power.
Re the showing off well let's just say your not a Paki if you don't show off!

Re: Current Trend

i think that extra prayer and time spent in the masjid is usually never a bad thing

even if the night is not known to be the 27th everyone can benefit from praying more

however, that is probably a time and best spent on ibadah and not as some sort of social/commercial event

Re: Current Trend

Praying more cannot be a bad thing...if you are going with the intention of sincerely offering prayer on this great night, there cannot be anything wrong with it.

If you go to show off, then I guess we should leave it upto Allah swt to deal with such things as he chooses.

You can only control your own actions...no one else's. :)
