Re: Current Pakistan
They are incorrect in this data point. Unless they feel that a +/- 17% confidence level is good enough ![]()

*On the economic side, we keep congratulating ourselves on this or that good harvest and slight improvements here and there in foreign exchange reserves. But have we created the requisite scientific and technological infrastructure and know-how to move our economy into the 21st century? Are we anywhere near our neighbour India in this field in terms of trained manpower and infrastructure? What is the current comparative state of our industry and where is it going to stand in relation to our neighbour in ten or twenty years from now? Where do we stand in terms of producing value-added goods in relation to states similar to us? It goes without saying that a broad vision in this area for the future of the country has not been created and implemented so far. Indeed, our agriculture is yet to mechanise on the scale which exists today in the developed countries or even comparable developing countries. *
why ask all the questions? what about the answers? I mean anyone can ask questions. Its myopic to think that in a few years we will catch up with a country that had been taking the right steps in the 90’s. Infrastructure changes dont have immediate impact, so yes we are suffering from the utter incompetence of previous regimes who did minimal..if they did not actually backtrack.
so lets look at number of universities and institutes, foriegn invstment, high tch parks, joint ventures to increase local production, etc etc. Where is the journalistic integrity in reporting teh facts rather than asking questions without even bothering to put some context.
I mean tomorrow if you set up 20 MITs in Pakistan, does it mean that next week we will be competign with India? when was IIm set up, when was IIT and BITS etc set up? when were trade reforms made. then look at how it was capitalized on. what were we doing then? what were we doing as a nation at that time? what were we investing in?
Yes Pakistan has tons of issues, and they need to be fixed, but they can not be solely attributed to this regime, and good policies, investments and programs dont have an immediate avalanche impact, its takes time to build, it takes time to gain momentum. So lets talk about issues, lets figure out what needs to be done, but then realize that ills of decades can not be blamed on one person, each of our successive regimes from Zia’s time onwards made their own faux pas, made their own planning erroes, missed the boat etc etc. it multiplied. Now we expect to see that all vanish, and nto just vanish…go 180 degrees opposite?
