Curiosity about other religions

What are some things that you would like to have answers to in regards to other religions? Things that you can’t get your head around?

Keep in mind that this is not to attack the religion but just purely out of curiosity.

Also, sects do not classify as another religion :stuck_out_tongue:

I like Buddha's philosophy of love. And as a side note, I think he took this philosophy from the ancient religion of Indus Valley people, and this philosophy later found its way from Buddhist texts to Christian Bible. This is why the similarities between Buddha's teachings and Jesus' teachings are remarkable.

Re: Curiosity about other religions

What was the ancient religion in the Indus valley? My wife told me few yrs ago that there was a period when Christ's whereabouts were unknown. It appears he may travelled to then North Hindustan and imbibed Buddha's teachings.

Re: Curiosity about other religions

According to the Bible Jesus did not start his mission until his thirties so many ask what was he doing up till then. There is much evidence that he went to India and discussed religion there with the Brahmins at varanasi but did not agree with the caste system he then found his way to Kashmir where he was pleased with the Buddhist monks who dominated the area. It is also said the after his crucifixion and subsequent rise from the death he went back to Kashmir and lived out his natural life there. He was buried as was his ancestoral custom but something which was unusal to the local Buddhists.

Re: Curiosity about other religions

This is the view of some people, especially of Ahmadi community in Pakistan.
But there is another explanation of Buddha's influence on Christian Bible. It is said that Buddhist preachers at the time of historical Jesus were traveling around the world. These preachers also went to Levant and Egypt, where Biblical books were being written by early Christians.
Thus these Christians came to know about Buddha's teachings, and incorporated the same ideas in their own religious books, attributing these teachings to a supposed Jesus instead of Buddha.

Re: Curiosity about other religions

Actually, it is possible that the Hebrew Bible circulated throughout other regions of the world due to Jewish dispersion, particularly after the Assyrian and Babylonian invasions. This would account for much of the morality of in Greek writings, for example. The early Church taught that the Greeks indeed had read Moses, perhaps the Buddha read these writings as well, or his ancestors did.

Re: Curiosity about other religions

What is the concept of God in any religion? Religion is so confusing and bizarre if you look at it objectively. There is no physical proof yet it controls the lives of around 90% of the world's population.

Re: Curiosity about other religions

my primary school classmate was a Jain. his mom had instructed our teacher to make him sit in the staffroom during recess every day so that he would not be tempted to eat canteen food. he only ate from his tiffin. always felt bad for him.
