You can still get a mini cake for the cutting part, and then place it at the very top of a cupcake stand with an assortment of cupcakes in colours matching your themeand nicely decorated. I love the idea! Plus I think cupcakes are easier to hand out rather than worrying about cake cutting costs.

thats what we did for my brothers wedding. we had a mini two tier cake for them to cut and then 3 varieties of cupcakes plus kulfi. it was a huge hit with our guests.

what you can also do is add in a sheet cake to cut back on how many cupcakes you will need. the sheet cake would be in the back and would come out already pre-sliced for guests to help themselves too at the dessert table. sheet cakes are much more economically priced than multi-tiered cakes or cupcakes. but really, the most important thing with whatever dessert you serve is make sure you go to as many tastings as possible!
