Cup of coffee...

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university lecturer. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the lecturer went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said: “If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other’s cups.”

“Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn’t change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it.”

So please, don’t let the cups drive you…enjoy the coffee…

Re: Cup of coffee...

wow...i like this philosophy of life. really duznt matter what car ur drivin - its all about if u can get urself to the place - that kinda analogy. i like it man, thanks for sharin.

Re: Cup of coffee...

Not really hey, I'm quite fussy about the type of cup/mug I use for my chai ... the taste really does vary according to the cup ... a cup of chai will differ in taste from a styrofoam cup, a mug and bone china. So the hypothesis is useless :p

Re: Cup of coffee…

:omg: well well well. :konfused:

Re: Cup of coffee...

Nice one.

Re: Cup of coffee...

I liked it so I shared it. It is obvious that some will think differently, thats fine.

There was a Bruce Lee movie "Enter the Dragon". There as the master (as in teacher) of some kid and Lee points to the sky and the kid looks at his finger - Bruce Lee scold him and tells him - Don't look at the finger, or you will miss the universe; Look at where it is pointing to.

(Please do not comment on the movie, thats again not the point)

Re: Cup of coffee...

It's a nice analogy.....but I'm with catty.
I need a certain kind of cup to enjoy my chai. If the cup/mug is not right, I'll drink water instead. No point in wasting the tea bag or coffee beans.

And I suppose it goes for life as well. There is a certain lifestyle that I enjoy, and it costs a certain amount of money.....therefore I need a job to be able to enjoy it.

Re: Cup of coffee…

nice one…but i feel there is a flaw here:

because a cup with a tiny little hole can’t hold the coffee for long and the time the cofee gets cool enough to be sipped, it’s gone spilled on the table:bummer:
same goes for life some jobs, money , position put you on unstable and dangerous position: vulnerable to civil war, nuclear explosion, chemical pollution, persecutions or desease the broken cups lead to quick death, that’s why no one wants them
