First of all let us bare in mind large swathes of what is today was never conquered by the British or the Sikhs or the Chinese or the Ghurkas, so for some there never has been an adoption of the “conquerors” ways.

Meanwhile for the rest its not so much an adoption of a conquerors ways as it is a starvation and destruction fo your own ways. With no alternative what can you expect people to do.

You mean the phrase ‘While in Rome, do as the Romans do’ is not applicable for conquerors?
