Cultural Roots - Jogi Pardesi

Reshma said in an interview recently, “When I feel the calling from Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s shrine, I leave everything to go and be with him”…

I feel that feeling too. Sometimes I really yearn to go back to the place of my roots, I feel a calling from my village, there I share something special with the land and the air and the water, kind of peace and harmony, that I don’t share with any other place. There I feel like the lost traveller who’s finally reached his destination, but the pleasure is so temporary because have to leave soon…

The smell of the raindrops on the soil, the sweet taste of the water. The people are so kind and warm.

I’ve often thought about living in my village, set up a small school there. But none of my direct family is there anymore, I can’t live there alone. Plus people say all this is impractical and only those feel it who’ve never really lived there. I was discussing with my father too if this is possible and papa said think about it and we’ll see later.

Why are we gradually moving away from our roots? First a town, then a bigger city, then another country in another continent?

i thought the whole idea of being a jogi was to be submitted to one single person/being....
strange comparison made here....
wish someone cud explain more of whats being said here....

^

yes their faithfulness is only to Him but their attachment with all worldly things is impermanent...

^
now why do people use words like "impermanent" when words like "temporary" r much more easier to write and read and understand....

or shud i start a new thread to discuss this.... :p

anyway, i still feel the sher is essentially wrong in its meaning....

Forms of communication again......simple people wud use the word temporary to define impernance :-)
The context in which Jogan is used here is not out of place out and out. Committment of a Jogan may not to be to a person, a place can well be the object. Shah Lateef was a jogi of the land :-)

Now to you Irem, I understand your feeling because I too have been feeling the same off and on. Roots have the strong appeal but u are right u can not be living there if the rest of ur family is not there. One of my passion was to go back to my people and serve them with whatever I have learned in my life but going there I noticed that people have changed.....those people I left in the childhood have gone through their share of suffering......the charms of our roots that we recall from the distance seemingly fed away once u are there. Strange is this world......I wud be glad if u can come out with a solution on this other than that we can not do anything.

Seedha Saadha - I guess the human spirit is just restless by default, maybe we should live in the present and not be too nostalgic about what could have been and our roots? :( but that seems impossible hayna? :D

armughal bhai why do u feel the shayr is wrong? plz explain :D and you know what, i was typing 'temporary' first...but it seemed so...harsh :o so i decided to use 'impermanent' :D

Negative. Living in present disconnecting with the past and not co-relating with future is something I cant be doing. Regarding human spirit to be restless, agreed but how many in todays world are restless? Majority of them are restless to earn money to build big houses, purchase luxury cars and marry again and again if not go for girl friends.
Subtracting such majority we have very few number of jogis and jogans today!
