I think brainwashing or whatever you call it doesn't happen all of sudden. A society has some factors that are receptive to such ideologies. This is the reason KP got affected easily (accepted this strictness), where Sindh is still struggling.
The government brainwashed people, madrassahs were setup for the purpose, people brought from all over the world to fight a jehad. The curriculum was changed, and a soft corner was developed among the public for the 'jehad'. It has had its toll on KPK/FATA as that was the front line for the 'jehad'. KPK is also the land of Khushhal Khan Khattak and Rahman Baba. All the important sufi's who are buried in Punjab and Sindh came from Central Asia. If you see the muslim world 1000 years back you will see Rumi and others present every where. Where as Wahabism movement started in the 1700's.

Do you think transformation of Khuda to Allah has changed perception of God in Pakistani society?
I have seen the slogans in the favor of Jehad in Northern Pakistan (Punjab and KPK both), I have seen jehadi commanders in my own university (they used to come like tableeghis). How can one explain the strengthening of LEJ, JEM and LET in otherwise sufi South and Central Punjab? A lot of money is being pumped in, which is making a lot of difference in some of the impoverished areas of the country.
do you think it is a big transformation? how big is Sufism in Sindh today? Do many people visit Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s shrine in Sehwan? I hope one day to visit as i have heard much about it especially after the dama dam mast Qalandar popularised it. He was born in Afghanistan but his ancestors came from Baghdad. Like Ali said how many Sufis originated from central asia.
In India Ajmer Sharif dargah is popular with people of all backgrounds as is the Haji Ali dargah in Mumbai. My parents went last year and there were people of all religious backgrounds.
Yes YOu are right . there is influence of sufiism in sindh and punjab infact all pakistan! infact people from every religion go there.

Brainwashing is saying the same thing over and over and convince others that what they would be doing would benefit Islam and help them in the hereafter. Like brainwashing people to think of other sects as Kafirs, brainwash them to kill them for earning jannah. Brainwash them to go and fight 'jehad' (like Afghanistan and Kashmir). The same brainwashing is now being used to convince people to carry out suicide attacks in Pakistan.
Is everything we have been taught since birth considered brainwashing then ?
Or is it once there is a change in what we had been taught since birth ?
Are only the negative attitudes of ppl considered brainwashing ?
Or is the term misused ?

If some one asks you to go and carry out a suicide attack somewhere (for upholding Islam) would you go ahead?
This isn’t a reply to all the questions I asked :hinna:
But the ans would be :
No , so am I brainwashed not to ? Or because its considered a positive attitude;its not brainwashing ?
I have given you the example. How else can you explain the motive of those who go and commit suicide (which is haram) and kill innocent people (which is also haram). The reason being they are brainwashed that will go to jannah as they are killing kafirs. For them everyone else (other than their kind) are kafir and wajib ul qatl in any case.

How is a 'teaching' & 'brainwashing' different in your example ?
If th child has been taught wht you just said since childhood , how is it considered 'brainwashing' ?
So are all religions 'brainwashing' humans in some or the other way ? They all promise rewards for good activities (the 'good' activities differ).
Or is it just what is perceived as negative which is called brainwashing ?
We all are brought up in a certain way, but even if my family asks me to go and commit suicide I wont because I can think and decide accordingly. No one can be convinced to go and kill himself along with others, the people who get brainwashed cannot think for themselves. The decisions of their life and death are made by others. This is one example, this can be applied to brainwashing people to consider people of other sects as Kafirs and that killing them is a way to go to jannah.
