Re: Cultural ignorance and racism

cultural ignorance is not racism

racism might be there even if you are culturally aware

Re: Cultural ignorance and racism

I have always believed that too much culture results in racism.

Re: Cultural ignorance and racism

I used to be a very broad minded regarding these things of culturalism and had a liberal approach that everybody should have its own life and should have its full right to live and enjoy. When I was at uni I never faced any racism, and I never had any idea that how british pple take asians. Just 2 days back it made me really feel sad when I saw 'Big Brother' a reality tv show, in which shilpa shetty is also participating as house mate. This reality tv show presented the racist attitudes of these white pple towards Asians. They abused her in all ways, that was absoloutely bullying and harassment against an ethnic participant. Yesterday I saw a news on net that more then 10000 complaints have been filed against the issue. Well shilpa is a bollywood star and thatswhy people felt sorry for her and took the matter seriously, what about people like us, who knows when we are working on assignments in a team, we would be called with names on our back.
I think we should keep our identity and culture alive in all ways. We have no need to impress or depress others?? we just need to keep our values stronger so that our coming generation can prouldly recognise themselves.
