Cultural affectations

This is not a cultural thred but a light hearted look at peoples across the world and how they are similar.

In the book the Historian, by Elizabeth Kosteva, she writes that Bulgarians shake their head sideays when they mean “yes” and up and down when they mean “no”. I am fascinated by this..because all throughout my scholarly research I always thought that only south Indians did that. this is indeed an amazing find of cross pollination of cultural affectations that would seem to be not there simply from a geography standpoint. Ha any one heard of others?

For example…both the South Koreans and the Fins are depolorably depressing people. Nothing ot do with their surroundings, alcohol, etc..they just are.

Re: Cultural affectations

South Korean girls are also freaky.

Re: Cultural affectations

Elderly Somali women waddle as they walk ...they look like those eggmen toys...you know the type, the ones that you push way and the come back up

they make me laugh

Re: Cultural affectations

^ you mean like Penguins

Re: Cultural affectations

yes...and when you go up to them to ask a question they go into fast forward mode and zoom away..its the funniest thing Ive seen

im talking about obese 50 to seventy year olds in traditional dress with huge flapping scarves.

Re: Cultural affectations

in all my life i havent seen such scholarly research. r u sure they weren’t Romanians? :dixsi:

Re: Cultural affectations

It’s so intensely disconcerting. Try sitting with a Telegu contractor explaining the database changes you need, and be faced with a whole load of what looks like disapproving side-to-side head shaking!

Re: Cultural affectations

^ Maddy, isn't this world of ours wonderful. try sitting next to a bulgarian..he will not only do the same but smell like a brewery.

Re: Cultural affectations

What about South Indians, they shake their heads and hands to put more emphasis on whatever they are talking about. I had to physically retrain "bala" our IT consultant once becasue the fker made me dizzy; his head and hands were moving faster than his tongue. I am Sure Liz Kostova covered that in a seperate volume.

Re: Cultural affectations

I don't think she ever researched Bala's tongue GP...but she should.

Re: Cultural affectations

^
Gavrilo LOL :rotfl:

Re: Cultural affectations

Be very wary of desis who come up to you at random when you're at the mall, bookstore, grocery shopping, etc. most likely they are one of those Quixtar fkers who want you to get in their money grabbing scams. Why are Indians so into these pyramid schemes?

Re: Cultural affectations

Pindi,
What amazes me is that the sheer numbers of these Indians in pyramid schemes like Amway and Quixtar, and that fact that these Indians are smart, intelligent, educated people who are in IT, medical, business, and other highly qualified fields.

Re: Cultural affectations

^ Whatever the poor Indians do to offend both of you so much… Jeez!!! :hehe:

Re: Cultural affectations

^ Faisal, wait till I get to punjabis...they are even bigger morons.

Re: Cultural affectations

^^^psst, you mustnt say things that can offend people...tisnt allowed

Re: Cultural affectations

Pinnay, kee gall ay, Punjabi teri majj chuk kay lay gayay nay?

Re: Cultural affectations

Roman, i don't think smoking hukkah when there is none is healthy for your health. that's what you said right?

Re: Cultural affectations

No, I said I don't think buffalo is the way to go for you. Ox, may be.

Re: Cultural affectations

^ see what i mean people, morons!! I think the world would be a better place if all you punjabis and all you gujju/sindhis convert.
