I learned 'Dandiya' from my Hydrabadi fella. Rajhistani 'Dandiya' (when the move fast in circule) was one of tough traditional dance. I remember every after two minutes, i needed a glass of water :D
I don't the steps, but I love the folklore behind 'Ho Jamalo'. My cousins always dance on Ho jamalo, but I never tried.
Is the song is tutak tutak tutiya hojamalo:)
I know UP walas still dance on this in their weddings :D
Chahe kar lo duniya ka toor (tour)
Ahi! gajab hai Kanpoor
UP wallah dance on Milad ul Nabi also on some sufi songs praising Prophet(pbuh):D
i took bharatnatyam for 4 years...while in the dance troupe, i learned many indian folk dances like:
garba/raas from gujurat, bihu from assam, ghoomar from rajashthan, bhangra/gidda from punjab,...it was alot of fun, very hard and demanding, but fun!!
and great exercise!
"Teen maar" tune pe dance karna tha, all dances converge on that tune:D, Hyderabadis get frustrated if someone disturbs them while they are high on "Teen Maar"
Itna mast teen maar pe naach ra tha mein, ine police waale aako dance ka bomabumm kar diye:D
It is not a song, it is just a tune, quite unique, I will paste the link if I find it:D
I heard it first time in UP, where as usual Baraat was dancing on Tootak tootak totiyan DAHI JAMA LO:D
while Jalsa is on the way, all thelwalas selling samosas to Ice cream would be on the side of road, some youngster would jump on eat and jalsa moves ahead, then they catch up with Jalsa again as soon as possible:)
woh to Muharram ke setting hi sad hai nahi to UP waale uss par bhi naach lete:D
i think its inspired by yemeni dance as an area named barkas is inhabited by yemeni arabs …which were originally barracks of yemeni soldiers of nizam…now known as barkas
Yes Muharram is very serious occasion, but as far as food is concerned, I don’t think any other festival could match with the variety of food prepared in Muharram. From Haleem to Biryani, Milkshake to Sikanjbeen, almost all variety is given as Nazr o Niaz. My family is Sunni, but we also distribute channa pulao and arrange for Rooh Afza sabeel for children (My Ammi says them Masoom).
I also observed some Muharram procession behind the main jaloos (doing Maatam), which come with dhol and shehnai probably depicting the yazeedi troops after the Shahadat of Hazrat Hussain (RA).
