For who don’t know Cuban twitter was established to cause political discontent and cause political upheavel in Cuba. It was a US government programme to destablize Cuba. They ran a similar programme in Pakistan.
Good to know. I would love to know what you Americans of Pakistani descent would love to say about this?
Re: Cuban Twitter in Pakistan - another example why the US should not be trusted
Basically the Cuban Twitter was an attempt to use Twitter to spread descent in Cuba. In Iran when there was that semi-revolution the US government ordered Twitter to stay on line an extra 24 to 48 hours, when it was gonna be taken down for maintenance.
Basically the US has attempted to use social media to cause political strife and upheaval.
Re: Cuban Twitter in Pakistan - another example why the US should not be trusted
It’s pretty obvious that America and India have infiltrated Pakistan’s media(including social media), but anybody that brings it up is labelled a ‘conspiracy nut’ or ‘Zaid Hamid fan’ or ‘Taliban lover’.
Re: Cuban Twitter in Pakistan - another example why the US should not be trusted
Twitter, the online warfare, is here to stay. Political and security leaders of the country should be aware that it's not only F16 one requires to compete in a war. Though our mainstream media has already discarded social media as a curse, but the fact is that one simply can brush it off at its own peril.
Re: Cuban Twitter in Pakistan - another example why the US should not be trusted
Even the "Arab Springs" were engineered ;)
There is a reason Pakistani military does not trust US for whatever it says/promises.
I think they were to some degree, maybe not engineered but fully taken advantage off. We can see the results, Tunisia still unstable, Libya ravaged and less said about Syria and Egypt the better. Muslim leaders in those countries obviously have not helped themselves either.
Re: Cuban Twitter in Pakistan - another example why the US should not be trusted
I am not sure what exactly this program achieved before it was defunct. It would be a bit naive to think that such a program which ran on people’s cellphones could destabilize Pakistan. People used it till it was free and then the project ran out of dough to fund itself.
Anyways,
Population of Pakistan: ~ 190 Million.
Number of internet users: 30 Million (16% of the population)
For social media the percentage is even less:
People using Twitter is at a whopping 1.1 %
Anti-Pakistan elements should stick to TV channels like GEO to create chaos and destabilize Pakistan for the time being.
Re: Cuban Twitter in Pakistan - another example why the US should not be trusted
the local media can be used(and is being used) to indoctrinate the local populous, but social media can give the wrong message to the outside world if it's hijacked by anti-state elements.

But there is apparently no mechanism to check if the system has been hijacked by anti-state elements.
I think social media should be left on its own. Even if the system is misused, the free and independent social activists should be able to neutralize the threat. There cannot be a Pemra for Twitter or Facebook. At the most you can block their websites in the country, but that may not be enough in case of a misuse.
Re: Cuban Twitter in Pakistan - another example why the US should not be trusted
That may be true but again believing on it will stop you from finding and working on the solutions of your original problems. Pakistani issues are much bigger than these things and thats why believing or cultivation conspiracy theories will only hurt us. Try living in real world in which no country is anyone's friend. Even US and Israel have their own interests within each other.
Is US trustable? NO, nobody is.
Are India/US involved in Pak? strong may be.
But what you gotto do is to secure yourself from everyone. Solution is in the hand of our own people which would be to focus on bigger issues like lack of peace and sinking economy. We are way too far behind and have to cover a long way my friend :)

I think an easier solution would be for Nawaza to hit up his homebody Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal(minority owner of Twitter) and ask him to ban some troll accounts and provide him with personal information about the people that pose a threat.
