Cruises

anyone been on a cruise before? if so which carrier? please share your experiences.

Re: Cruises

I've used cruise control in my car that's about it.

Re: Cruises

Its thrilling when you first get on the ship and it sets sail (so to speak) and it feels so good when it pulls out to the wide waters and all you have is water till the eyes can see. You'd love the little cabin when u first go there and put your stuff in.
But all that lasts for only a few hours. The vast ocean would be like a vast prison where you can't go anywhere, your cute little cabin would make u feel so claustrophobic that you won't be able to breath. And this goes on forever and ever.

Overall it was a pretty decent experience :D

Re: Cruises

^ I agree with you!

It was a good experience...not fun for the most part. I think for me, bathroom was the worse part. It was too small. Thank God I did not eat a lot and took stairs to all 13 floors.
We went through Carnival Cruise on the Paradise Ship. If you want a relaxing vacation with great room service then go for it.

Re: Cruises

We went on a cruise in December 2002 to Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. I have to say we all loved alot. I found it very refreshing when you went out on the deck after dinner and look into the ocean or lie on the deck chairs and read ur fav book. The meals were great...so many courses.

They do themed nights. On one night, we had a midnight chocolate night. There were 12 courses of choc meals...hehe...boy, we stuffed ourselves. Even writing now, i can smell the choc.

You also have the captain's night...you have dinner with him. You do have to look smart and dress and not turn up in jeans etc.

The ship does dock for a perid of time or days so you can spend some time exploring. Its great and would love to go on it again inshallah.

Re: Cruises

:bummer:^

doest the ship stop at different places and let you get off for 5-6 hrs?

Re: Cruises

Flew to Hawaii and took the "Pride of Aloha" (Norwegian Cruise Line). It was a 7 days cruise where it went to each Island everyday. It would sail at night while you are asleep (well, sometimes it would start around evening) and arrive at the island in the morning. It would give you til the evening to get out and explore the island and have fun. I think it stopped on the big island for 2 days because there was more to explore there. The room was small but we were there only at night, and who cares how big the room is when you are sleeping!

They give you a program each day that lists all the daily activity including group activities, magical shows, opera, plays, concerts, BBQ parties, etc. etc. etc. So if you can't afford to go to expensive shore excursions, worry not, there is so much that you can do on the cruise. In our case, the food was included in the price, including the drinks and tips etc. So feel free to eat whatever you want, at whichever restaurants (they had casual as well as formal restaurants), and if you don't wanna leave your room, you can order food in the room 24/7 using the menu that's in your room. There's a little TV in your room that has a few channels and one of the channels is the camera that's in front of the ship so when it's sailing, you can watch it on TV and imagine titanic scene :D

I can go on and on and on. Oh, when you get off the ship, a lot of the places offered free shuttles from cruise to the shopping centers, malls, and other places. We loved every single minute of it and miss the experience so much and would love to go back!

If you want a girl's point of view, feel free to PM Mrs. Shikra and she will tell you everything about it. She loved it more than I did. Overall, it was great, we loved it, we miss it, we would do it again, and it was not boring at all, in fact, there were a few things that we missed!

Also, this holds true for NCL's Pride of Aloha, services may vary depending on the cruise lines. Feel free to PM me if you need more information.

Re: Cruises

^ thanks shikra …I was looking over different carriers and my family and I like what NCL has to offer. I looked at some of their penthouse suites  amaaaaazing!!

Re: Cruises

I am fairly certain NCL would give you a better deal for your money than many cruise lines. Where do you plan to go?

Re: Cruises

wherever the closest port will take us…which is either going to be bermuda, bahamas or the carribean. I was looking at the prices on their website…it’s so expensive if you want the bigger cabin :bummer: My mom was saying that the size of the cabin doesnt really matter because most people only go there to sleep (as you mentioned).

Re: Cruises

If you leave from New Orleans, I can come meet you :D

Re: Cruises

i thought you were in cali?

hmmm how long does it take to get from from va to N.O?

Re: Cruises

No, I am in New Orleans, Louisiana :smilestar: My guess would be that it’s about 2 hours flight from VA. From NY to here is about 3 hours.
