Stu - truthfully? no. I believe evil is a part of man that has to be controlled, but as for demons, no. There is nothing that says I must. If someone believes, that is up to them and I don't look down on them, they just believe differently from the way I do.
well, you agreed that the priests who did were "nutcases" above. Not that I disagree w/you, it's just that I'm always curious how most "devout" followers of any religion create a "line of believability" that they won't cross. How can one selectively choose not to believe that exorcisms are real, the adam and eve story etc... and still consider themselves a catholic. Shouldn't it be an all or nothing thing?
No, God is all or nothing, belief is all or nothing, rites and rituals are man-made. Adam and eve were not possessed, they were approached by satan in another form. I do not believe in possession by evil spirits, it is too much of an excuse for bad behavior.
Errr - my answer was unclear. I believe demons exist, I believe Satan exists, but I do not believe in possession. And what human was told by God to cleanse a person by torturing them? That is not religion, that is fanaticism gone wild.
Minah_pa, how do you interpret Luk.8v27 and Luk.9v1? When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possesed man from the town…When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons …
