‘Mehndi Auditions’

A bit much?

I get that people take mehndi dances very seriously these days, it’s not just kunjarpauna for the sake of it, it’s fun family stuff. Howeves, auditions to see if you cut it to dance to some remixed bhangra/Salman Khan song…really?

Re: Crossing the line

:smack:

OHMYGOODNESS

that is ridiculous. I hate it when mehndi dances are taken too seriously and made to look professional.

Shadis are a time for celebration and togetherness. Mehndis are supposed to facilitate that!

Re: Crossing the line

…and this is why I’ve developed an aversion to weddings recently  EVERYTHING seems so contrived and choreographed - there’s no spontaneity and joy in the wedding. God forbid you mess up the dance number or the entrance - oh the horror of it all!

Re: Crossing the line

lol...thats crazy.

if there were auditions, the auntis and uncles would never get a chance to groove.

Re: Crossing the line

^ so maybe it's not all bad. :@:

Re: Crossing the line

lol sahar.

i love when the uncles take out their "guns" (ok index finger and thumb) and flap their arms like a bird. and the aunties...so cute when they hold each other hands and looking like they are playing "mercy" game.

balley balley!!!

Re: Crossing the line

To each his own, the dancing is just one aspect of the mehendi. There will be other things about the occasion that will be more natural. Who knows? There could be a combination of the "practiced/professional dancing" AND the freestyle-who cares if I have two left feet and two rightarms-let loose and be a frog/bird/hippo dancing.

Re: Crossing the line

I get the whole learnt dances thing, but AUDITIONS like X factor?! Hello, it's just dancing.

Re: Crossing the line

reply back that you would love to be a judge, and to make sure their routine is tight!

Re: Crossing the line

I hope nobody dances tat that person's mehndi. Talk about being a bridezilla.

(ok that was too mean) :)

Re: Crossing the line

OMG! for real? that's just weird.. "ooohh, look at me, i'm so exclusive, people have to auditions to dance at my wedding"

Re: Crossing the line

Bit extreme!

Re: Crossing the line

:rotfl:

Re: Crossing the line

dunno if it would be the bride wanting this....as i understand it... usually someoen other than the bride is in charge of the mehndi dancing thing

Re: Crossing the line

That’s actually really sad. WOW! Going to THAT much effort for a mehndi dance?? Maybe they wanna get like a gazillion views on youtube? :smack:

Re: Crossing the line

Forget bridezillas..

This sounds like the work of a "sisterzilla" ..a girl who sees her sister's wedding as a chance to get HERSELF prettied up and show their sultry moves on the dance floor. They see the mendhi dances as a competition vs the groom's side and it's a source of pride for them to have the best. dances. EVERRRR.

They are like Nazis...you think the auditions are bad? Wait for the dance practices leading up to the mendhi and see how they snap at you and god forbid you mess up any moves during the actual performance - the world will come to an end!

But seriously, dance auditions are a little tooooo much. I'm all for both choreographed and freestyle dancing, but the point at the end of the day is to have FUNNNNN!!

Re: Crossing the line

The competition idea is an old one, that's been part of Pakistani weddings for a long time. It used to be singing competitions. Now the dancing is involved as well.

The point is that it should all be fun and celebratory and inclusive.

Re: Crossing the line

Omg. I’d like to attend such an audition and see what the rejects go through psychologically :naak:

Re: Crossing the line

lol imagine no one audtions and the bride's sister (on whom we're all hating on here) does 10 routines of dances!!!

Re: Crossing the line

Lol...Cute!

The question is, how many would be willing to go for these auditions?! Hmmm.
