I think asking a few questions to get a better understanding of a situation is not a big deal. At times I’ve seen topics where a situation has been laid out and lots of advice given, only for the OP to come back and add more details which kind of changed the entire situation, or at least didn’t clarify matters or reflect both sides of the story, making most of the previous advice given pretty much useless. That kinda stuff is highly annoying.

That is not cross examination , that is getting the facts.
Cross examination is when one doubts the sincerity , honesty and integrity of the poster and start to establish their credibility. The poster is not on the witness stand in a court.
