Hey - I've just noticed Ridley Jacobs is using an ihsan bat (not sure which model - probably an ihsan KING). Great advert for Pakistani bat craftsmanship.

They have been using it for long and I think Hoper uses CA Pakistani bat.
140/6
they're still hanging in there. Sarwan's on 52* - he should come higher up the order, after Lara he's the best bat they've got.
sarwan gone!
not good
jacobs gone :(
Umm A newzealand win will leave the Pool B Wide open. And whichever top3 qualify will not carry maximum points with them. Situatiom might arise ke most super sixes teams will have equal points. Intersting!!! Khair its too early to suggest that.
Teams Batting Second Losing
So far in this World Cup, there have been FOUR matches involving test nations as opponents. In ALL four matches, teams batting second have lost.
SA lost WI chasing 275
NZ lost to SL chasing 272
PK lost to AU chasing 310
WI lost to NZ chasing 241
Looks like the best approach is to bat first.
Any thoughts?.

i dont htink its the best approach. It depends on the conditions. and the team chasing.. anwyays its too early to predict, lets see...
funguy,
I saidbefore the Windies began their reply that 230+ is never easy when chasing. It's a lot easier to put the runs on the board when you bat first. It's even harder chasing under lights.
Windies only fell 20 runs short in the end. Two great fighting knocks by Sarwan (75) and Jacobs (50) nearly pulled off an unlikely win. The top order was a disgrace, all of them, Chanderpaul excepted, gifting their wickets to NZ.
A fluke win by the Kiwis against South Africa on Sunday may mean an end to the Proteas campaign for the SUper Sixes stage.
Kiwis look good in bowling and fielding.
One argument that I never seem to comprehend in One-dayers is "well, it depends on the conditions whether a team should bat or bowl first". Common man, it's just a day's game. How would conditions change in a day. I can understand if it is a test match.
For me, batting first in one-dayers should be the ONLY option.
Also Msrs Duckworth and Lewis' method heavily favors the team batting first. Remember 1992 WC semi final SA vs ENG?. SA needed 24 of 13 balls.Showers came down for half an hour. Revised target was 22 of ONE ball !!!.
Kiwis are a team I like normally but I hope SA stuff them on Sunday even though it would be better for us if a strong side like SA went out. Especially as we always beat NZ.
On a point of principle though I want all those boycotting teams to pay the full price for messing everyone around.

Funguy, Imagine if its been Rain over night, and cloud cover. 9 out of 10 captains will choose to bowl first in those Conditions as most likely cloud cover will go away in afternoon. Thast just an example. Another example would be moisture in the wicket. It will help seam bowling earler on but when sun burns the moisutre out, batting becomes easier.
This moisture theory is another baffling phenomenon. If there is moisture in the pitch, then the umpires should delay the start til the moisture evaporates. ![]()
well thats how cricket is played and being played since ages :), but yeah i agree that its an advantage to the team bowling first.

Funguy Teams normally choose to Bat or Field according to their strength.
Teams like Pakistan, South Africa whose bowling is better than their batting normally bat first and that's why I was surprised to see Waqar chose to bowl first.
Teams like India, WI, Zimbabwe, England normally opt to bowl first because their batting is better than their Bowling.
Teams like Australia - Dont care. They actually prefer to lose toss, because first they beat the hell out of opposition and after that everyone can curse the losing team captain that their decision was wrong.

It would be interesting to find out the OVERALL stats for winning ratio of batting first. Anyone?
I bet it's close to 50/50

I'll bet the stats are pretty much favouring the teams which bat first, especially in WC matches.
Mr X, Do you think this may be due to added pressure of World Cup matches?.
