A fielder near the boundry takes a running catch, The catch is complete and clean but the fielder doesn’t stop after taking the catch and crosses the boundry.
- Is it a catch ?
- Is it a Six ?
- Is it a four ?
Does anyone know the rules ??

then it is not a catch and is a six
It is a six
same thing happened in the movie lagaaan when aamir khan hits a big six ![]()
yeah offcourse its a six ![]()
Six
If the fielder caught the ball inside the boundary and crossed over due to momentum, then it is a FOUR. It's either OUT or FOURand NOT a six. He is out if the fielder had control over his body movement before crossing over the boundary. For example, if he caught the ball and kept running, then the batsman is out since fielder had control over his movement inside the boundary after taking the catch. But if he catches the ball and leans against the fence or touches it then it's a SIX.
Thanks everyone for your response. I also though so but confused after reading the following :-
it’s a chakaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ![]()
Funguy, The fielder has complete control over the ball and it is as clean as a catch can be. He also has limited control over the momentum but crossed it partly because of the momentum and partly because he is not aware of the rule (and assumed that the batsman is out).
My understanding is that until you have full control over the momentum, you cant declare the catch as "complete". So if you crossed the boundry (dur to momentum) even after firmly holding the ball in the hands catch may not be considered as "completed".
So, it is NOT a six.
Well if no one is sure about the rule i m sure about one of our "street cricket" rule. We had a rule k ager aisa ho tu 6 runs + out ho ga :)
Yeh tau aisa hua naa k gudgudee karoonga laikin hasna nahee.
Its a six. Remember a catch taken by West Indian fielder in recent World Cup when he took the catch and kept going backwards and stepped outside boundary and it was given a SIX!?
There was once a time when Moin Khan (who was not keeping) but fielding at the bounday took a catch, very cleanly but he kept on going back and six wasnt given, and the batsman was given out. He got it very cleanly, but for some reason kept on moving back and crossed the bounday. Asif is right, there is some twist to that rule.

May be umpire couldn't catch him crossing the boundary?
I thought the rule is pretty clear.
It is OUT if the fielder completed the catch(meaning he had completely grasped the ball) before stepping over the boundary line. I do not think the fact that the fielder is running or standing is an issue in the decision unless his stepping the boundary line helped him gain control of the catch in some way.
