Cricket-Punter puts $82,500 on S.Africa to beat Australia
SYDNEY, June 17 - A London-based punter has placed A$125,000 (US$82,500) on South Africa to beat Australia in their World Cup semifinal, a spokesman for an Australian betting firm said on Thursday.
Australia and South Africa meet in the semifinal at Edgbaston on Thursday.
A spokesman for Darwin All Sports said the punter backed South Africa at A$1.65, or at odds of 6-4 on, to reach the final. If successful he would make an A$81,000 profit.
The winner of Thursday’s semifinal will play Pakistan in Sunday’s final.
