Re: Cricket in Baluchistan

There was one bowler (Qasim Umar?) who accused Imran Khan of drugs use (I think) and was dropped and dumped for good, where was he from?

Re: Cricket in Baluchistan

Qasim Umer was an opener and played against many teams including WI. I think Marshal broke his jaw with his leathel bouncer.

Re: Cricket in Baluchistan

he was an opener and was kenyan born. He was among those paki players who were able to deliver against anyside anywhere. A very good batsman of fast bowlers.

He was involved in some controvery which brought an early end to his career.

Re: Cricket in Baluchistan

As fkhan says Qasim Umar was from Kenya and a very fine batsmen.

Re: Cricket in Baluchistan

And Imran did not a particular liking of Qasim Umer, hence ending the career of many a fine players, whom he did not like....

Re: Cricket in Baluchistan

Cricket is not played as a sport in Balochistan. In Quetta, some people play it, but just for fun (not as a profession), then how can players from Balochistan can make their way into our national team. It has nothing to do with Balochistan. Players are only considered if they are playing in local tournaments and have enough talent.

Don't spread false or misleading information to make your point.

Football and Hockey are more common in Balochistan and our national teams as well as many local clubs and departments have some players from Balochistan at all times. In Quetta and other big cities of Balochistan, people are very much interested in Squash, Boxing, and many other sports too. Most of our Squash players and Boxers are from Balochistan, these days.

Re: Cricket in Baluchistan

Qasim Omar was not a Balochi! Many people think he is a Makrani (because of his dark complexion) but I think he is only Kenyan born Pakistani. He was a very good batsman of fast bowling. Upon return (or may be during) an AUstralian tour, he talked about Pakistani players indulgence in 'extra-curricular' activies that involved late night clubbing, etc. Imran Khan did not like it and he dumped him. May be there were other reasons, but this is what I came to know from newspapers, etc.
