Re: Cricket for beginners!
You don't have to. But almost all the batsmen do prefer running with the bat.
You raise a very interesting question. Next time while running a definite two, I am throwing rhe bat at the striker's end. Why carry a kilogram of wood with you if you will be coming back to the same end. Some purists might argue that a bat gives you about 38 inches of extension while touching down at the popping crease... is it worth carrying the darn thing?. Your call.
PS. What part of LBW did you not get?
Re: Cricket for beginners!
Ok, wait. First, let me go snub at my brother because he was wrong and I was right. See, he always yells at me because I don't take the bat with me when I run.
Yea, let me just check if I got this right. So, if I am standing infront of the wicket and the ball hit's anything besides my hand or the bat, then I'm out. Right?
And then there's 3 outs until the next batman is up, right?
Re: Cricket for beginners!
You are crazy.
You are out ONLY if in the umpire's opinion the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps. Wait a minute... are you asking for a match played between you and your brother?... There is NO LBW at that level... you can even play the ball with your head if you like.
Each batsmen gets ONLY one chance, one out and next one is in.
Re: Cricket for beginners!
Phatima1: LBW is not given for ball hitting upper body (if it is not covering wicket in some awkward way). If ball hits legs as desribed by funguy just ONCE the batsman is out, this "three" times is gali/mohalla cricket.
Re: Cricket for beginners!
Captain1, you did not have to mention 'upper body' while describing the law of LBW to a lady.
Has the ball ever hit your upper body?
Re: Cricket for beginners!
Are you saying a ball can never hit your upper body? I have seen many players receiving ball on thighs, above waist-line etc.
wait-a-minute: does “upper body” mean something that I’m not aware of? ![]()
Re: Cricket for beginners!
lol nah captain you cannot be given LBW out if the ball hits you above your pads (lbw rule) unless you are Sachin Tendulkar playing in Australia in your prime form and even the ball hit you on your helmet you are lbw ![]()
Re: Cricket for beginners!
HAHA!
lol!!! woo that was a good one :k:
Ok, I think I got it now. Ok so can someone explain the innings to me please. How often do the teams switch positions from batting to fielding?
Re: Cricket for beginners!
^ once all players (batsmen) are out (10 out of 11) or quota of overs is completed, one inning is over and the team who was bowling first takes "batting" and the one who was batting first goes to "field" and bowling.
Re: Cricket for beginners!
Hearing this, I have no idea what we played as kids -cricket or fricket!
Thanks so much! It really helped. It really sounds like fun but not good enough to watch it for hours. ![]()
Re: Cricket for beginners!
Captain and funguy -- Thanks.. those comments helped too. :D
Re: Cricket for beginners!
No problem. No one else was helping you so I decided to.![]()
Re: Cricket for beginners!
^^ Yes thankyou. Saved me a lot of question.
BUT...Here's some more question I have:
What brings upon the end of a game?
How many innings are there in a game per team?
Do the teams constantly switch back and forth like in baseball, or they only switch once in a game?
Re: Cricket for beginners!
Me thinks here you are talking about Baseball here.
Re: Cricket for beginners!
Ok, so it's only 1 out and then the next batsman comes up?
Re: Cricket for beginners!
yea and goes down to 10
Re: Cricket for beginners!
answers for phatima1
What brings upon the end of a game?
In One day cricket when both teams have batted for 50 overs or both teams have gotten out or basically when a team has won the game (either by scoring more runs than the other team or getting the other team out before they score the required runs).
How many innings are there in a game per team?
I already answered that but I'll answer again. In 1 day cricket each team has 1 innings of 50 overs. In test cricket each team has 2 innings...I dunno how long they are...I think there is a time limit .
Do the teams constantly switch back and forth like in baseball, or they only switch once in a game?
I have no idea about baseball but in one day cricket each team will bat and field only once.
In test cricket they will bat and field twice because each team plays 2 innings.
You should really watch a game if you wanna learn more. All I know about cricket is what I have seen from tv or asked my brother/cousin.
Re: Cricket for beginners!
I don’t think there is any limit, if you wanna enjoy batting play all 5 days
… Lara scored his 400 in 2+ days (I don’t remember how much of 3rd day WI played for).
Re: Cricket for beginners!
Yea I watch like 20 minutes of a game and it’s like so boring
But I’ll try :k:
