Cricket Bats?

I have never really come across a logical explanation behind this. So I thought perhaps some Gupie would be able to answer this.

Why are cricket bats used in Pakistan slightly curved (Slight curve in the blade)?
Does it assist in certain kinds on strokes? Just wondering what is the science behind it?

Re: Cricket Bats?

I believe it is to prevent wear and tear, especially when most pakistani pitches are so abrasive. A sharper edged bat would kinda get chipped off after being hit on the ground again and again.

Thats what i think, not sure if thats the reason or not.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Re: Cricket Bats?

Increases the area of the “sweet spot” on the bat, easier to “middle” the ball.

Re: Cricket Bats?

Actually it is dipped in an oil and then played with in the nets or somewhere before using it. People normally dont use a brand new bat for the game. I have no idea what it's called in english but it was called "bat ka stroke nikalna" in Pakistan.:p As trooper said it is have a bat that middles the ball sweetly.

Re: Cricket Bats?

^^ Its called "Knocking a Bat"

Re: Cricket Bats?

Captian Lota I guess I did not phrase the question right. Let me try again. I am not talking about the curved edges of the face of the bat. I am talking the actual curve /bend in the bat. So I am asking why are some bats curved?
All non Pakistani manufactured bats I have seen are straight. Even the Pakistani bats for export are straight but bats available in Pakistan are curved. E.g. MB Bats are generally curved. I tried finding a pic but could not but I hope this makes the question clear now?
