Crib Bedding

Was wondering what your experiences on crib bedding have been.

Did you buy one set before the baby was born or more?

How long did you use the bedding and were you able to use the same for the next baby or did you get an entirely new set?

Any brands you recommend more than others?

What fabric for the inside of the quilt do you recommend (some look silky and I was thinking they would be uncomfortable and others have a fuzzy blanket-y feel–is that too warm?

Any other advice?

Re: Crib Bedding

Decided on these bedding sets for the baby (gender neutral since we do not know what we are having). We’re combining a sitting/tv room with the baby room so have to stick to brown, dull gold, beige, blue, and turquoise shades.

Already got the beige and brown Glenna Jean Ashely and am now considering the Snug as a Bug set because the fabric on the inside is cotton and looks more comfortable for a baby. Some issues I have with the beige are that it’s very fancy and less baby like and has a plushy feel inside. Does anyone have experience with Glenna Jean products or Kidsline.

Re: Crib Bedding

and I am back again :D

I like both of them but I hope you really don't mind me saying this the first one looks a bit girly to me.. and definitely fancy!!!

We havnt' started shopping yet but I know what I want and dun want.. I dun want a bedding set.. they are at least $100-300 for four pieces.. bumper pads, I dun intend to use, it will be a breathable bumper..and quilt.. they look pretty but I will probably be afraid to put any blanket or quilt on my baby for teh fear of suffocation.. I would rather have them swaddled or use those sleep n play sets during n ight time.. unless and until I am sitting right next to the crib.. I ain't covering my baby with the quilt so at the end it's probably more for display than use.. and then the sheets.. I would rather buy LOTS and LOTS of them.. I saw some cotton fitted sheets for cribs at Target last week for 10-20 bucks each so I would rather invest in those.

I absolutely adore bedding sets but I am not spending money on it.. I would rather buy a nice crib, good mattress, couple of water proof mattress covers, and lots of cotton sheets!!!

and thats my opinion.. I have no intentions to offend anyone for their choices they make :-)

have you bought the crib and mattress? did you invest in an organic one or just a firm one???

Re: Crib Bedding

^everyone's entitled to their own opinions--that's what makes this world a fascinating place:)

Bought a firm mattress and a wooden convertible crib with changing table. Did not invest in the organic one--just because I thought I didnt sleep on an organic one--think im ok lol Were you able to find good quality sheets at Target?

For as long as we can--we intend to keep the baby in a bassinet with a light blanket--but it all depends on how much weight the baby gains.

Yeah! The first one does look a lil feminine--when I read the description---it said gender neutral:S:S Have a lace bassinet lol--what if I have a boy!!!!!!! he will kill me when he grows up hehehe

Re: Crib Bedding

yeah I dunno if I want to buy the organic one or not..I will probably read more abotu it before i make my mind.. I have a long way to go anyway!!

you have a lace bassinet.. please share a picture?!?!!? bassinets themselves are very girly but I dun care.. it’s more for mommy than the baby

I want to buy a bassinet but haven’t decided which one yet!

I didn’t touch the fabric for those cotton sheets at Target but I am assuming they will be good enough if I have plenty of them!! they were quite a few gender neutral ones too like green, yellow etc.!!!

Here is the link.. you may find some reviews for these products!!

Hi didn't wanna read n run
Well I'm thinking u must b from the US or Canada I'm not sure of the recommendations there but in the uk we kinda do things like this: (well I did anyway :)
no duvet for the first 6 months atleast and no pillows
Bumpers waste of money just novelty factor
Using cellular blankets which r warm when needed n cool when needed too
I just used flat sheets and cellular blankets just like they use in hospitals
On the bedding or blanket packaging we get guidelines on how many sheets n clothing shud b on the baby according to room temp. (my youngest is 3 now so guidelines cud hav changed
But just go with instinct and common sense keep a room thermometer it helps cos u might not feel the heat or cold like a baby does.

And don't stress trust me it all falls into place when the little ones come into our lives

Re: Crib Bedding

The bassinet looks like this one only its all in creme:

ukgal–Yes, i am from the US (tropical weather where I live); no pillows or duvet for the first 6 months–had no idea babies didnt use pillows lol. What exactly is a cellular blanket?

Thanks for the link Gemini–will try going to Target soon:)

Re: Crib Bedding

some gorgeous things–only too expensive:(:frowning:

Re: Crib Bedding

Check bedding at pottery barn kids, BR. I just picked up a navy and white polka dot sheet from there. I'm opting for a white breathable bumper from babies r us too and mixing and matching the pieces myself as opposed to going with the set. I dont want a bedskirt either because i think our crib loks cleaner without one so the set is really not worth it for us. That said, the one you have is lovely but it might end up being the dressy one you put on for guests maybe? Babies will pee and poo on sheets so try to get some 100% cotton, easily washable ones too.

As for the feminine thing, I wouldnt worry- the kids not gonna remember this stuff. It's mostly for us mama's :) And it'll be in the bassinet the first couple of months anyway so maybe wait to buy the second set once u know who baby is? We are doing the same bassinet first, crib later thing and not knowing the gender, I'm hesitant to buy more than a couple of fitted sheets right now because shopping gender neutral is super hard, especially if u hate pastels like greens and yellows they sell- which I do. Pb kids is the first place I came across that offers darker, primary colored bedding.

I also have the Ollie and lime egg crib quilt but that'll be purely decorative in the beginning. Also check skip hop's bedding. They have some lovely options as do dwell baby. You can get both at target.

Re: Crib Bedding

Oh and migi is a cute brand too http://www.babymania.com/Migi-tp2-1361.html

Re: Crib Bedding

I did not buy the set, although I loved them. They were expensive and too fancy.I got some fitted sheets and some my mom made for me...
Regarding the quality of the ones at target...I felt that they shrunk a little too much after being washed and were too tight on the edges of the mattresses.Despite that I used them.
I also got some fisher price sheets from Walmart. They were better quality and in fun prints. They came in sets of 2 fitted sheets in one pack.I liked them.
I bought quite a few cotton blankets from Babies r us....they were great. Is till use them when my daughter is a year old.
I also bought a breathable bumper and used that in the first year.

Around her first birthday I came across a crib bedding set online and liked it.It was not that expensive and was all cotton and the comforter was not at all fancy...just like a regular quilted comforter should be...can be totally used when the weather gets cold, rather than just decorating (although my daughter loooves throwing the nicely folded comforter off the crib...!!..)
I bought that to please myself more than her and claimed it to be her BD gift from mommy...:D
she is old enough so suffocation is not a hazard...so it works well...
I actually thought a crib skirt makes the crib look fancier...I had the crib without the skirt for the first year...Another great thing so far has been I can shove the huge packs of diapers under the crib....:D..the skirt hides them....a great storage solution if you are tight on space...actually those large diaper packs take too much space...!!
:D

Re: Crib Bedding

Greats tips! I totally forgot abt Pottery Barn--need to visit it ASAP--its only 5 minutes away from home and thanks to pregnancy brain the only things I remember are food and sleep lol

Walmart--still need to go there too. Burlington Coat Factory has a baby depot too and I saw some sheets there as well.

Do you think I could use this crib set when I make a toddler bed (daybed type converting thingy) out of the crib--so that the baby is a bit older?? I dont know if you use the same crib bedding or if it changes when you convert the crib to a toddler bed.

ooooooooo the skirt used for storage is a great idea--we really dont have much space and have to have a combined sitting room with baby room.

How are the waterproof sheets/crib padding?? Have you used those?

SGC--Migi is so cute and very kid oriented--you're right--Ill probably end up using that bed set as a decoration set and get another practical one lol

Re: Crib Bedding

I forgot to mention about the water proof fitted crib sheet things I got from Babies R us...
I have never had any diaper leaks so that was good. Also the crib mattress has a water proof covering so incase there are leaks it wont soil the mattress. But I still use the water proof fitted sheet under the regular crib sheets. The top sheets gets washed every few days while the fitted sheet gets washed less frequently.

Re: Crib Bedding

BR if u get the summer infant nursery essentials set, it comes with a changing pad, covers for the pad, waterproof covers for the crib mattress and a waterproof crib mattress pad. It's great value for money and get a whole bunch of useful bits. It's at babies r us.

Re: Crib Bedding

^^found all of these things yesterday--got mostly Carter's:)

got the Da Vinci Kalani convertible bed in Cherry with a matching changing table.

Re: Crib Bedding

Re: Crib Bedding

eeeeekkk they will probably have breathable bumper pads in the bedding sets now.. about time!!!

I got the set with the bumper pad even thugh I had no intention to get one but I will probably removed it once the cuppycake is able to move around!! for now the crib looks cute :D

sgc.. I got that summer infant nursery essential set at my baby shower y'day...it's just perfect!

Re: Crib Bedding

^ excellent! that set has everything you would need. what else did you get? tell! tell!

i have the bumper in baby's crib- it looks really cute and he's going to be in it once he's fully movable, etc, so its going to stay. The suffocation hazard is for the wee ones who can roll over in their sleep but can't really roll back if they're pushed against the bumper. Also, the breathable bumper at Babies R Us is always sold out everytime I've gone.

Re: Crib Bedding

lol ok going from your recommendations, I also got the tiny love mobile set that Gabe has!! it matches the nursery color so nicely!

I should probably just take a pic of other things and post it in my blog for you!! ironically, most of the stuff matches the nuresry.. looks like blue and green is in these days!

Re: Crib Bedding

^ haha i know- his nursery is all blue and green too somehow, not sure how that happened. and YES, pictures please!! :)
that mobile is awesome, trust me, he'll LOVE it!
