Re: Creme de la Mer
isn't that the cream all celebrities use? i'm sure it works really good then! but yes the price!
Re: Creme de la Mer
I’ve never used it or even considered it due to the price. Since I read this thread…I spent the last 10-15 minutes doing some quick reading on this (specifically the ingredients) and here are my personal thoughts:
Looking at the ingredients…I don’t think this is worth the price. I don’t see anything “amazing” in them. They took certain basic ingredients, put it together, added in other chemicals to make it feel and smell great, add in nice packaging and a high price…and that’s it. From the little reading I’ve done…there is nothing in this to get rid of or prevent fine lines/wrinkles. (no retin-a or retinol). The oils listed are proven to be great for skin (ie. sesame seed oil) and can be bought separately for MUCH cheaper. I also already make my own Vitamin C&E serum at home for MUCH cheaper. And also, this is a heavily silicone based product so it may break out some people who have acne prone skin.
On a side note: Sesame seed oil stinks on its own…lol. And there are other oils besides this that’re proven to be just as good for skin (argan, rosehip, avacado, macademia nut, almond etc).
I quickly skimmed through the reviews on makeupalley and wasn’t too impressed.
Here are 2 links that I specially like b/c it mentions the science/factual part of the cream:
What’s in Creme De La Mer / Truth In Aging
15 Minute Beauty Fanatic: Creme de la Mer Review
This is how the reviewer sums up the cream in the 2nd link: "I definitely liked it as a stronger moisturizer, and despite my combination skin it was not “too much” of a good thing. I looked more glowy and radiant, my winter dryness disappeared completely! I do feel that there are a lot of added ingredients beyond the basic moisturizer that are worth the added expense. "
My thoughts on the above statements: There are many oil and other strong moisturizers that don’t cost $140 or more for 1 oz! You can get glowy, radiant skin by using vitamin C serums, and products with lactic acid. And winter dryness will also dissappear if you use heavy oils that’re much cheaper.
At the end I just don’t see what this cream will offer me that I’m already not getting from argan oil, chemical peels, DIY Vit. C&E serum, and retin-A.
My 2 cents. ![]()
Re: Creme de la Mer
Yup, it's all hype, like Paheli said. Nivea Creme (the original German version, not the Made in Mexico one) is considered a "dupe" of La Mer because of the similar ingredients.
Re: Creme de la Mer
I use the La Mer eye cream and it's actually really amazing. I noticed a huge improvement in the darkness under my eyes after like 2 weeks of continuous use!
Creme de la Mer
Paheli how do you make the vitamin c serum
Re: Creme de la Mer
^ See post #11 on this thread. There are other formulas online if you search but this is the one I use.

Paheli what would you reccomend for eyes? As a moisturiser? That's what I'm currently lacking :-/
Re: Creme de la Mer
When my eye area feels dry…I just use Argan oil (same thing I use on my face) to moisturize. I’ve read that Vitamin K creams are good for dark circles. MUAC sent me a sample of their Vit. K cream…I used it for 2 weeks and saw a little improvement…but then got lazy. ![]()
But yea…for moisturizer, I use argan oil. I’m not sure why one would need something different to moisturize that eye area as opposed to the rest of the face. ![]()
Thanks. I may look into vit k cream. I have hereditary dark circles...annoying as hell :(
I use tretonin cream 0.05% but avoid the eye area. Is it safe to use around that area?

My RA is .025% cream and I use it around the eyes with no problem(very thin layer). You can try putting the .05% around the eyes. Start off with 1-2x week and see how that goes (I use it 2-3x/week). If the skin gets dry or seems irritated, that means the % is too strong. In that case, about an hour after applying the RA, apply moisturizer on top OR get the .025%.
Just make sure you never get it IN the eyes. :)
Cool I'll try that :) I started using it to get rid of my spots and even out my skin and it's worked! But know of its anti wrinkle properties so carried on. Then thought my eyes are probs the first place to wrinkle :-/ so I'll end up with an uneven face! Wrinkly eyes and less wrinkly face..oh dear...
Re: Creme de la Mer
Which argan oil brand do u use?
Re: Creme de la Mer
^ MUAC (Makeup Artists Choice)
Re: Creme de la Mer
always wanted to try it......one day lol
Re: Creme de la Mer
SGC, I would say go for it, it’s an investment in looking good
I purchased it a couple of years ago to treat myself to something nice, as I always wanted to try it and I am so glad I did, I only put little bit on my face,it keeps my skin very soft and pores are so minimized, I am thinking get the oil absorbing lotion too to apply underneath my makeup
Re: Creme de la Mer
You can try smaller jars for much cheaper if you buy it off eBay, there are a ton available.

Is it? I've heard a lot of good things about this cream. Where do you get the German Nivea?
Re: Creme de la Mer
^I get people to pick them up for me from the UK, Pakistan or Dubai.
Re: Creme de la Mer
