You should get an Amex. Get in the habit of paying off your debt's atonce.
Discover Card is very student friendly. I got mine when I was a freshman. It may not be accepted everywhere (outside of USA) but it pays you cash back. I have made over $1000 since becoming a member. And that's all cash!
you should go with something that fits your needs. Visa gives cards that give miles, percent off, low rates or lenghty payback times. For me Amex has always just been a pain in the backside other then their benefits and its really aimed at the high rollers for the most part.
Choose what best fits your needs.

do not go for chase, their credit card operations are a disgrace.
just dont take pocket load of thenm as I did.. have since paid thousands in interest only.. one or 2 would be nice..
my uni has a bank and i just got a credit card from there, the credit limit is a thousand bucks...
gamma, just be careful that whatever credit card u get, u make the payments on time...
