credit card payment online?

Assalamoalaikum

guys how safe are online c/card transactions. for example using c/card to pay for goods via paypal. i’ve noticed dat the last 4 digits of the c/card r saved when one logs on to his/her account to pay! is that safe from potential hackers let’s say for arguments sake?

plz explain in detail how safe is using c/card online in general?

It’s pretty safe to use credit card to shop online if you are using it with credible sites like Amazon, Toys R Us, Half.com, bn.com, buy.com etc

I have heard too much about paypal frauds so i don’t use paypal to buy/sell anything.

Few things to watch

  • Always look for the "lock" sign in browser. This means that your are submitting your information to a "secure" web page. Other way to tell is that secure web page links starts with "https" rather than "http".

  • Before entering and submitting your personal/CC information make sure that URL of the page does actually belongs to your intended domain

  • Avoid, as much as you can to open the sites from “links in the emails”. If you want to see the details of the product mentioned in your email, just open the browser and browse to the site instead of going to the site by clicking the link.

  • Its always a good idea to read the “certificate” of the site (by clicking the lock icon) to make sure that site belongs to the company you think it belongs to.

Just take some precautions and hopefully your transactions will be safe!

I am doing CC transaction online from more than five years now that includes bill payments , shopping and money transfer and Allah Ka Shuker hai I am still doing fine and have no complains.

best of luck !

Its safe.

Though to have a piece of mind, reduce the credit line on one of your credit card to $500 - $1000 and only use that online. That way even if someone gets a hold of it they can't go on ruining your life for ever.

change your password often and NEVER I repeat NEVER verify your private information to some e-mail supposedly from your financial institution.

I only use virtual credit card numbers for online purchases. Citi (MasterCard) and Amex offer it. May be others do too.

You go to your bank's website, login to your account and generate a one-time credit card number. You can also specify a maximum dollar limit for the virtual number for your specific purchase. Use that on the online merchant's form.

If anyone gets hold of the virtual credit card number, it will already be expired and can't be used again.
