Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

I had to cancel a credit card on 04/22/11 due to some fraudulent activity on it which happened on 04/23/11 .
Now more than a week later I received my new cards today.
The issue is that I had used the credit card to make various purchases on the 04/22/11.Those transactions were showing as ‘temporary authorizations’ on my online statement at the time I called them up to report the fraud and cancel the card(which was on 04/24/11)
Now the online statement does not show any of those temporary authorizations.I called up customer service and they see nothing in their system, meaning all those transactions I made have disappeared. They were at a CVS,Payless,Dunkin donuts, gas station, grocery store etc etc.
The customer service person suggested I might wanna go to each merchant and tell them what happened.I do not even have all the receipts anymore…so what am I supposed to tell them..!

What can I do in such a situation? The customer service was actually of no help.I need to know what are my liabilities and will this in any way effect my credit score or have the merchants coming after me or anything…all in all, what will happen now and what can I do…??

**P.S…SERIOUS REPLIES AND SUGGESTIONS ONLY…!!!

Thanks.

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

Your previous account is cancelled and new account is open. You are going to receive the letter from your credit card company in days regarding your report of fraud. Just sign the letter and send it back.

Same thing happened with me last month, my wife card charged with 1250$ as a foreign transaction, i call the american express they cancel the card, send me new one and took care of whtever the fraud charges were.. End of story.

I recommend to use a monthly identity monitor service like identitymonitor.citi.com.... to have clear picture of your finances 24/7.

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

The merchants would not come after you, the credit card company would for any payments owing and not paid. That being said, if you have notified the credit card company and taken steps to report transactions that you want to pay for, but that they are not charging you for, so long as you can prove that you made the effort to notify them, the onus is on the credit card company. The CC company needs to pay the merchant which they will probably do so. So, now the burden is on the CC company.

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

Thanks Firenze...but that is not the issue. The company canceled the fraud transaction which was in teh amount of $1975 or something. But they also canceled the transactions I made along with that.Although I recall very well that I told the customer service lady at that time which transactions I made and which ones I did not.Now I spent about $300 at various merchants and none of the transactions show on my statement or even in the real time statements the credit card company has.
I cant seem to figure out what to do now...:-///

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

Thanks for the replies.
I dont when and where I heard this...but I once heard that the merchant can come after you through a collection agency...even after 4 or 6 years...
I certainly don't want that...

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

Wait for the fews days or for next statement, if all the charges were consider fraud, then just drop 300$ to me,,, if you don't like them. ;)

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

What Sehrysh is saying that burden of merchants asking for the payments and CC company arranging for it is between two of them. You are not obligated to go to your merchants.

When merchants wont receive the payment, they will contact the CC company again. At that time, CC company can contact you to see if you dispute that payment or not.

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

most likely, these charges will be there on the statement for your new card.

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

Thanks again.

I spoke with them again a nd the rep now said that they see the fraud transaction and none others so most likely something went wrong with each merchant that the payment did not go through.None of the transaction shows in their system and it is not possible to delete any transaction, even if it is a temporary one.
I still do not believe that it was a fault at the merchant's end because I saw all those transactions on my online statement a week ago, along with the fraudulent one.how is it possible that 6 or 7 different merchants had a similar technical fault in their system at the same time...???
I was again suggested that I go to each merchant and clarify the issue with them....I am not sure I want to do that.I don't even have receipts for everything...
Maybe I can wait another month to see if they post to the new account's statement...but the customer service rep said that most likey it wont happen either because if it were to,the charges would have been there in their real time statements....
grrrrrrrrrrr...:-//////

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

**it's merchant's responsibility to get an authorization from the card company. Once they get that authorization code, the credit card company is bound to pay the merchant and then take up the case with the cardholder in case of any disputes. if the transactions in issue are indeed fraudulent then they will gladly reverse charges.

i wud suggest you speak to a Manager of the Card company and explain what happened. i'm sure they will rectify the situation for you.**

Re: Credit card issue..urgent help needed..!!

Yes.

It is the duty of the C.C Company to honour the transaction. I have not heard of merchants coming after customers for the payment.

I believe if the issue is not resolve with Customer care, put a mail to the head of the C.C Company and the issue will be resolved immediately....
