The news is simply sickening.
Just to remind those about the innocent Pakistani student who was falsely accused at the US embassy in Santiago, Chile. He was framed and the US and the rest got what they wanted, malign Pakistan and Pakistanis in every part of the world.
Here is a recent article in Washington Post about Saif - the Pakistani student who is now in Islamabad, pursuing his masters degree at a university. The charges against him were dropped by the Chilean prosecutors as they knew that if the case were prolonged they would be further exposed.
=====
The following paragraph is false and ludicrous!
“The danger posed by a network of terrorists in the Americas is very real. Last May, Muhammad Saif-ur-Rehm Khan, a Pakistani applying for a U.S. visa at the American Embassy in Santiago, Chile, was detained after guards detected traces of bomb-making materials on his hands. U.S. officials discovered Khan’s link to the Islamist group Jamaat al-Tabligh. It is not clear how much they shared with Chilean investigators. Lacking evidence to prosecute Khan, Chilean authorities released him in January, and he left the country bound for Turkey. A high-ranking Chilean source informed me that, before his arrest, Khan lived and associated with persons of Egyptian, Saudi and Lebanese background — many of whom carried Venezuelan passports. One of the officials accused of issuing such Venezuelan identity documents to suspicious foreigners is Chavez confidante Tarek Zaidan El Aissami. Also Venezuela’s interior minister, El Aissami is of Syrian descent; his father is known for having publicly praised Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden; and his brother, Firaz, is an associate of the cocaine smuggler Makled.”
Mr. Saif Khan mentioned in this article was a student in Santiago, Chile, and in May 2010 was called by the US embassy for some “name check”. Mr Saif had proceeded to Chile from the United States and he had no visa issues whatsoever. After the debacle, Saif Khan returned to his parents in Islamabad, Pakistan, where he now resides. The prosecutors had dropped the charges against him. The whole incident received immense media coverage in Chile. A newspaper of such repute should not publish such stories without proper research. Such stories further malign Pakistan and Pakistanis are sleeping. It all adds up later!
