..without the posts..
Does anyone know how to do it?
I was thinking of stitching up some fabric then putting it on hooks (like how mosquito nets are hung)..

Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
^ I think that’s how it’s done. I’ve seen people do it by putting up hooks (and other hardware) on the ceiling and draping fabric strategically on the hooks. My sister-in-law has something like that in her guest bedroom. I shall ask how she went about it.
Do you mean something similar to this:
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
that would be so claustrophobic ..i cant sleep in that
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
Ok so , Someone I know had it without the bed posts .. But it was a one piece central hook attached to the roof , with which they hung the tent like stylish fabric that covered the bed .. Their room was big and it looked really good.
I have no clue , how you could potentially achieve the look you want , without the bed posts ![]()

Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
Ess Emm, these are no doubt beautiful looking options. I think if the ceiling isnt too high then these curtain rail’s can be used to create the look, but if the ceilings are high like in victorian houses , then it wont look very nice.
We have the high ceiling and I know when my baby was born , I was trying to create this look and tried it with a curtain rail , but it looked awful..
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
CB if you take a closer look at this picture pixstatic.com (3rd link, green room), I think the ceilings in that room are at least 10 feet, if not 12. They’ve probably used the same structure as in the tutorial, just put more things on it, to hide the structure, and it loks gorgeous. I think the rod thing would look gorgeous more so in a room with high ceilings than one with 8-9 foot ceilings. Another way is to use the hoop method, (again 3rd link). It won’t have a “walled” look to it, but I think it will work well with rooms with any height ceilings.
This is just one of the bedrooms in the Versaille Palace http://lovethelookingglassdotcom1.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/2275896386_e9e6852a49.jpg The ceilings in this room are HUGE, but the way they did it in the olden days was to have the canopy only above the pillow area, and they’ve hidden the “bones” of the structure with froo-froo stuff like, ostrich feathers :hehe: So yeah, I think that could work.
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
I agree Ess Emm , the first one looks so pretty and beautifully done. The second one isnt looking very sophisticated.
I guess its down to how it gets decorated , the choice of material and color ![]()
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
That’s very true. It’s not going to be an easy DIY I think lol.
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
I’ve been wanting to do a faux four poster bed look for a while but was also thinking about the high ceilings bit. My sister-in-law did it for her guest room with hooks and other hardware on the ceiling. Hers looks similar to this:

I think it looks quite dreamy and romantic but I was looking into something a bit more structured and polished, like this:

which uses curtain rails to create the look. The trouble is our ceiling is quite high and I’m not sure the look with the curtain rails will look nice.
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
Deeba, with high ceilings the look you are trying to achieve wont look good if you do it midway along the wall. The only option really is to use hooks that wont be too visible , use the hooks in the ceiling along all four corners and then hang the fabric and decorate it such that it comes full length to the floor.
you could also do the look where the ceiling bit is very heavily decorated and just net hanging to cover the bed:hmmm:
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
Thanks for all the suggestions.. Our bedding is quite contemporary so I was thinking something more structured might look better.. It’s this set below so it would need to fit in with this..

Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
you are looking at it wrong. so many tarzan moves just waiting to happen…
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
I was looking into the more structured look as well. From what I’ve seen and read so far, I think curtain rails would be the easiest way to go about this.
Re: Creating a four-poster bed look..
The bedding looks heavy, you may want to go ahead with a delicate and structured ( as per your suggestion ) look for this bed. I suggest either net or organza kind of material and that can be be achieved with hooks as well..
I spoke to a friend and she suggested you use hooks and strings in between to adjust the fabric coz that will hang the lighter fabric well. The flexibility of the string will depend on you , but will hide very well in the fabric and give it that very fine look that you wish to achieve ..
