Creatine

Has anyone tried it?.. are there any known side-effects for it?.. i bought a huge creatine box like 6 months ago and that time i wasnt sure about which brand name to go for…the one i bought didnt give me the kinda results i was looking for…so i quit taking it…i did drink load and loads of water when taking creatine but didnt workout good… There are couple of my friends who take creatine and have very good physique..however, there body doesnt seem as quite rock-kind as mine though… so i was just wondering that i should give creatine another try with some other known brand. Im currently taking Optimum nutrition 100% whey protein and glutamine.. so if i want to start taking creatine…where in my diet will that fit in?..

Re: Creatine

post your pic first we will decide thereafter. =P

Re: Creatine

Yes. How did you take the supplement? Did you take it in phases, Loading Phase, Maintaining Phase and No Phase? How did you separate out your creatine intake?

Creatine and Glutamine will go together with your Whey Protein (Isolate and) Concentrate. I am using this same brand, however, the "Natural" one. It does not contain Suclarose. A whole group of whey protein sources contain this artificial sweetner, alongwith (non-fat) yogurts and diet sodas/pops. You have to dissect the ingredient labels of foods.

One doesn't get rock-hard with creatine. All it enhances in a body is the efficiency of muscles to hold water which, in turn, will allow you to lift for a longer period of time before the energy level is drained. It keeps the muscles to work the maximum period of time. Rock-hard is rarely the case with creatine products, I would say hardly. Did you give a shot to Ribose alongwith Creatine and Glutamine? Ribose 'manufactures' and produces ATP blocks for your cells. Creatine only recycles the ATP blocks, which is, in effect, a little less of an effect on the body. There are a few supplements which has creatine and ribose as a combined in a powder form.

Mood swings is the first thing associated with creatine, for some groups of people. Not extreme, but to a point where you start to look at yourself differently for a few days and it is back to normal. Your body needs adjusting, even though it creates creatine daily, but not to a point where your cells can be recycled. This is where the creatine comes in. The recommended daily water intake while taking these supplements is 120 oz. or more.

Re: Creatine

yes i kind of tried to take it in phases but i just couldnt understand it.. i mean you're suppose to take it for 5 days and then stop it for sometimes then start taking 5g (1teaspoon) again... how does this loading phase work?

So, mood swing is the only side effect of creatine right?.. Do you know any well known creatine brand?.. Also, are all creatine unflavored?..

Re: Creatine

Well I can only suggest creatine to some one, who has no kiddney probs, liver probs and drinks like 3-4 liter a day. Buiding up muscles need 3 phases (generally). 1 phase where you can use creatine and glutamin. Maybe even a weight gainer (loading phase). 2. phase where you do cardio with high reps and more sets (more than 3 sets a work-out). 3. phase maintaining the muscles. Cardio + many reps many sets + less weight.
More over you can combine glutamine with creatine, but remember that both may have bad effects on your liver. So don't overdose!

Re: Creatine

Mood swings is perhaps the only kind of effect it has on a body, although at times it can be dangerous, but is limited in time. Once you pass that stage, it is easy to take creatine and feel normal. You can pick up any creatine product, almost all have the same blend of ingredients. You mentioned that you did drink lots of water when you took it the last time. See if you can combine Ribose and Creatine in a combined powder form.

Week 1: creatine loading phase (20g / day)

Weeks 2 to 4: creatine maintenance phase (10g / day)

Weeks 5 to 8: no creatine

Ali has good suggestions also. The program he recommended is very realistic for creatine users.

All creatine are unflavored. I do not know if it comes in any flavored form. I have yet to come across one.

Re: Creatine

My basic understanding of Creatine (which is basic) is that it delays the onset of fatigue when you are training, so allowing you to push yourself that little bit harder. In order to notice any difference I think you have to load creatine into your system over a week or two before you notice any difference. I guess you also need ideally need to stop exercising while loading as in theory when you are exercising you are using creatine (although not sure about this), and depleting your creatine levels. It is advised that people with kidney problems not take creatine as well as people under 18 and pregnant or lactating women.

It is advised that you do not take it continuously. That you take it for 2/4 weeks and then stop for another 2 weeks or so. Your body does produce creatine on its own but if you take it continously it could reduce your body's natural production.

Everybody is different don't take something just because someone does. It may work for them but not for you. Listen to your body. I personally think it is best to avoid it unless you have some compelling reason to take it.
