a few years back when i got sick of mirch masala while on one of my long trips to Pakistan, i would usually get round this by treating myself to one of the cream cones they sell at the bakeries. Only thing is, when i was there they used to make the fillings with that disgusting sickly yellow artificial cream…but beggars can’t be choosers.
I was just wondering if they have introduced fresh cream yet? It makes a big difference. The fresh cream cones in Blighty are arrbso-lyootly spiffing old bean
what's up? nobody ever had a gream cone before? i'm talking about those pastry things, with creamfilling with some syrup thrown in as well.
One thing we do really great in the UK btw is make fresh cream cakes. beats the crap out of desi mithai without a doubt.
Now if this hasn't caught on yet in Pakistan, then i suggest it would make a great business venture. the bakeries have got the right idea but they need to use FRESH cream. all you mithai walay sitting in PK reading this take note. Trust me, the rupeeya will come rolling in.
No i haven't had any cream cones, but i can definitely relate to the cream part you are talking about. I can't seem to like the kind of cakes they make in Pakistan either. They just have this weird smell and a slightly different taste to them.
You know what? I'll mention the bakery idea to Jeej (Azizi) Halvai, (my dada ji's favorite mithai pal). He could definitely make it big.
hey Pakistani bakeries are amazing. I know we used to frequent ‘Shezaan’. They make the most amazing chocolate eclair cake and from what I remember it was fresh cream. I don’t like fake cream iether, it has to be pure fresh cream.
And no, I don’t know what cream cones are iether. But we used to have those polka icecreams. deevyyneee
Xtreme, the cone bought at RehRee with flies all around is usually a few days old. Try buying from Shezaan (they are owned by Ahmadis) or some other quality bakery, you will enjoy it, and cream is a bit fresher than the ones sold on RehRee.
I used to like these cones as well…I would always start eating from the bottom, just for the sake of consistancy.
I think Rahat bakers at upper mall, next to fortress stadium makes the best cones along with ice cream in lahore, last time I have them about 9 months ago, they were wonderful in taste. So when you go to lahore try 'em.
from your description it sounds like a "cream puff" (unfortunate name). I don't know what they are officially called but the desi version was like a cheap imitation of what we have over here. It's a pastry sort of shaped like a cone and it's filled with fresh whipped cream not ice cream.
except in Pakistan they filled it with some fake stuff which is kinda disgusting but still a pleasant change when you're in those parts. We have products made with UHT cream (fake) over here as well but i don't touch them. I still haven't found out whether The Pak versions have moved onto genuine cream yet or not. Any info would be highly appreciated.
There are bakeries in almost every big city in Pakistan which sell really high quality products; made from fresh cream, butter, german chocolate and all the fine ingredients which you find here in the West. If you can't find one, then simply walk into the nearest hotel such as Pearl Continental or Serena, they also have fine coffee shops which will fix your sweet tooth at any given time of the day.
