Cradle of Civilisation?

It has long been held by Academics across the globe that the Middle East was the cradle of Civilisation, at least as we know it.

The oldest recorded Writings, Culture and organisation date from the region known as Mesopotamia… however where do you guys think Civilisation first appeared?

Re: Cradle of Civilisation?

civilization pretty much coincides with the point in time where humans mastered agriculture, and could afford to settle down to form distinctive identities and expertises that could be refined over generations, and would be simply impossible for those pursuing a nomadic lifestyle.

and since agriculture is easiest on the fertile plains next to rivers, civilizations sprung all over the world at suitable niches - mesopotamia - literally means land between two rivers - eurphrates and tigris - was one such instance of several dozens of ancient civilizations that flourished all over the world at roughly the same times.

Thanks for this Queer. :k:

I only stumbled on this idea today while debating with Kaka in another thread…

I have a theory maybe a flawed one that wherever Civilisation first popped up thats where the first humans popped up… sort of makes sense if you get my drift… so maybe it can narrow some things down.

However the usefull timeline actually shows that many cultures co-incide with each other… so it has been most helpfull. Again big thankyou. :k:

Re: Cradle of Civilisation?

I’m surprised there seems to be little mention of American civilisations which were very profound as well but it seems they are not on this scale… perhaps they only appeared much later…:konfused:

Also I am not the only one intrigued by all the Pyramid stories… from across the world… it even inspired Alien and Sci-fi Litreature for a long time.:cb:
