Cradle Cap

My son is 4 months old and he still has some cradle cap on his head. We have shaved his head 3 times already. My husband wants to shave his head again because he thinks it will take care of the cradle cap, however I don;t think it will help. Plus he is 4 months old and I don;t want to keep shaving his head. Do you guys know how I can get rid of his cradle cap? Will shaving his head help?

Re: Cradle Cap

Cradle cap ... is that the yellow crusting around the scalp area?? My son had that and it was due to the fact that he had built up oil and it wasn't being washed out. At that time, we were not washing his head everyday as it was winter. Once we started washing it thoroughly more regularly (like washing his head including his hair every other day with ample amount of shampoo), it disappeared. He only had a little bit at the front of his head. The boy sweats a lot when he sleeps, like the pillow is soaking wet. So he had too much build up of oil and sweat that simply wasn't being washed frequently enough.

Shaving doesn’t help with cradle cap :smack: its just over-production of oils that cuase it because of some hormones.
I’ve heard Olive oil helps… rub it on your baby’s head, use a soft brush to brush the flakes out with it, and then finish up with a gentle shampoo.
Or you could consult your doctor and get a prescription shampoo.

Re: Cradle Cap

^Eww! I don't think you want to see pics mall, it's kinda nasty.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Much appreciated. We have been washing his head everyday, but still no help. I think I'm going to try combing it out and see if that helps. If not then prescription it is!

Re: Cradle Cap

I used to massage the head with olive oil, used a comb and then washed it with baby shampoo and it worked. I did it for a few days and eventually it disappeared.

Re: Cradle Cap

While she's in the bath i shampoo her hair with a shampoo i got from the doctors and then i brush it still in the bath with the shampoo on. After washing it i dry her head and then massage it with either olive or almond oil. Her head is looking fab now and i even think all this stimulation has made her hair grow faster.
