the more i think about CPEC, the more confused i am.
are we negotiating it properly with China? just heard ahsan iqbal in detail and i am worried.
looks like china is giving us humungous loans to build all these roads and related infrastructure. but who will be using these roads? obviously Chinese will be running their containers on these highways to export their products.
so why the hell are we taking these huge loans to build these roads? how are we going to pay back these loans? we are not even going to charge any tariff or tax on these Chinese products for next 40 years. are we charging these containers any container fee? i doubt it.
so why cant Chinese build these roads from their own money and operate it? why loaning us the money? and all the labor/machinery/equipment is also Chinese. what a smart way to screw us. they will rule us because we will be under huge Chinese loan.
and what will happen to our sub-standard and expensive export products when Chinese will flood international markets with its cheaper products even more?
You are not missing much, just being hasty thats all, CPEC is long term project, and it will only produce results if Pakistan can make good and realistic rules for manufacturing…
With Renault, Hyndai and few other large-scale manufacturers entering Pakistan…it is only until they start production…its a long road ahead and real long with Anti-Pakistan Media such as Bol, ARY, Geo and lots other spreading negativity for Pakistan…
long term if fine but you did not address my concerns…are we going to pay back these loans to Chinese? if so, how? we are not even charging tax on their products for 40 years from what i know
It is liks M2 project, where we paid Koreans, now M2 belongs to us…
Chinese or any other investor would not invest in country like Pakistsn unless there are big incentives, against those incentives Pakistan is getting two main things, 1st getting a politically strong partner in shape of China, 2ndly, getting its infrastructure fixed! True they have 40 years tax holidays, every investor would like to take his money back…with profit, so will Chinese..
They are not doing a charity here, they are protecting their commercial interests and we are ours, with this investment, we are bankrupt and just to get out of the whole we are doing whatever it take…
It is like a persom built a shopping mall, it failed, now in order to make it successful he rented out all the shops on zero rent for the period of 1 year, true that he’ll not get anything for a year, true many will leave when he’ll enforce rent after a year, but by then the mall will be a success story…
Having said all that, If PMLN didnt replace Ishaq Dar with some visionay Finance Minister, then rest assured it is going to be RCD 2.
Almost all of infrastructure is being consulted, and developed by local companies like Nespak, fwo, zkb, habib construction, nlc etc.
Wind and coal small power projects are being developed with cooperation of private mostly textile sector. Like descon operating a wind power project and gulahmad group collaboratiing coal power project. If Chinese are really getting something out of cpec, then we will sure get a modern coastal city developed as gwadar. Only thing should worry us is pollution. Perhaps govt need to develop railway track with top priority.
Golden triangle of export industry( Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat) need fast access to port.
Iam bit worried about coal fired power-plants, if govt follows Kyoto Protocol then it can be handled otherwise it will create worst smog and is very harmful as it is in Indian Punjab.
yes, govt should consider wind and hydel options. Also there is huge number of vehicles on local roads of Lahore. There should be fast and easy access to public transport (govt supported) to help reduce pollution.
