Renowned columnist Ardeshir Cowasjee passes away | DAWN.COM

**KARACHI: One of Pakistan’s oldest and most renowned columnists, Ardeshir Cowasjee, passed away in Karachi on Saturday at the age of 86.
**
Cowasjee, whose weekly columns graced the Dawn newspaper from 1988 to 2011, was suffering from chest illness and had been admitted in a Karachi hospital’s intensive care unit for the past 12 days.

In addition to his columns, Cowasjee was also known as a social activist, philanthropist, and a businessman.

“Sad to hear that one of Pakistan’s finest & most conscientious columnists, Ardeshir Cowasjee, has passed away. May his soul rest in peace,” said columnist Nadeem F. Paracha in a tweet sent out Saturday.

“Within a month, Karachi has lost two towering greats – (Iqbal) Groovy Haider and Cowasjee,” tweeted journalist Omar Warraich.

RIP Cowasjee.. A very few people know that biggest TCF school campus to date was donated by him.. A legend indeed.. Big loss to Parsi community..

^ I didnt know about that, the article does mention his philanthropist work though. I believe he was a true Pakistani hence a loss for all of us.

Sad shocking news. Being a Parsi, he was a neutral observer to the events ... which is a rare quality. I used to value his comments a lot.
Now who will fill the vacuum left by him?!

Great Pakistani. Huge loss for us as a nation. As honest as anyone could be in whatever is remaining of JInnah's Pakistan. May his soul rest in peace.

Saddened by his death. I used to read his columns. He was an exceptional person in Pakistan. He also did a lot of philanthropic work.

The school is in Machaar Colony Karachi.. Being run by TCF.. Has 1200 very poor children from slums..

He was a brave man . Stood for causes . We are loosing all . Our last row of learned people is passing away .
