So is it farz? Or is it just out of respect we cover our heads during azaan?
Re: Covering your head during azaan?
Nothing is Farz except Farz ![]()
This is a practice adopted out of respect. Very similarly a lot many stay quite during Adhan.
Re: Covering your head during azaan?
Being a quite is compulsory during Azaan.
Re: Covering your head during azaan?
Well I was at this dars place & this aunty came on running to put duppata on my head during azaan & in my heart I was like its not farz as far as I know, its just people cover their head out of respect. Its more about listening & answering the azaan I guess.
Can someone confirm if its farz to cover head during azaan?
Re: Covering your head during azaan?
To my knowledge, it is done out of respect and not out of farz. In Pakistan, both my maternal and paternal grandparents’ houses are right next to the masjid, so you hear the call to prayer loud and clear. Once my khala remarked that she doesn’t like it when women hear the azaan and don’t cover their heads. I didn’t say anything to her, but I’d like to have said that…“What’s so great about girls covering their heads during azaan, but then they don’t get up to pray once the azaan’s over? That’s like giving more priority to a respectable (but optional) practice as opposed to the obligatory/farz act of prayer.” Now it’s one thing if a woman has her period and cannot pray…or if she wants to pray at a later point and not soon after azaan. But hey…if you are able to pray and you still ain’t gonna do it…then don’t be so stuck on the dupatta. Just me 2 cents.

Peace @tissues
Covering head while hearing Adhaan is not obligatory nor recommended. However, we can say it is praiseworthy volunteer act out of respect towards our religion, if head is covered while hearing/during Adhaan.
